the show comes on tuesday but I don't end up watching until days later.....in seasons past I was glued to the TV screen the night it aired! this season is weird....does anyone else notice the odd camera angles they are using with desmond at certain points...
and what's the deal with zoe and her goofy crew.....they all look like they were cast as a favor to someone or something, those are the best actors to get for their roles????
I love how hurley just blurted out.."oh i think i know what the whispers are" what made him come to that realization all of a sudden? it seemed like very poor writing...
this season seems like they are using different writers and directors.

Some like s6. I personally don't find it to be as well written as prior seasons. Everyone is going to have their favorite. It would have been really nice to get the same quality of writing/directing out of S6.
The reveals of big questions, have been pretty lame and I do not believe that I'm blowing smoke up my own @$$ when I say that I could have writen most of those in better.

+ 1 on this. Am pretty dissapointed with this season and how they have handled the questions so far.

Well my only complaint is that this season was supposed to be the most exciting, yet it seems more slow paced than other seasons. Not dissapointed at all though, same great show. Like I said before, the show lost it's 'feel' when season three started, and really got weird when season five started. But I liked it when the settled upon the Dharma initiative, that was really cool. So all in all I like the overall scope of the show. I really liked it for the first two seasons though, because it more 'lord of the flies' and less 'back to the future'... The reason it was so popular I think was the concept of being stuck on a mysterious island with strangers. The social aspect, the forming of alliances and forming of power structures, providing for the defense and setting off on missions and adventures. That appeals to a lot of people. The whole first half of the third season they were in Dharma stations and all of a sudden the entire concept of the show changed. They almost 'lost' me... but I was already hooked.

My one big problem is how quickly they now travel around the island.
Back in the day a trip to the barracks took a day and a half of walking. Now they're going to the statue, the black rock, and back to the camp in one day.
When the Dharma van flashed with them from the seventies to now I though, "Good they can travel around the island in that for a bit and it will make more sense."
But they just drove it from the Swan to the Temple and now it's just sitting there abandoned when they could be hauling all over the place in it.
That one never made sense to me.
Why not use the damn van thats just sitting there??

That wouldn't be black smoke would it? :)
I think when they answer a question it kind of takes the intrigue out of the story. The answer always seems smaller than the mystery itself.

I think when they answer a question it kind of takes the intrigue out of the story. The answer always seems smaller than the mystery itself.Well put Wiley.
There is definitely something to that whole "the mystery is bigger than its answer" line of thinking, but even so, some of the answers we've been given have been pretty, er, less-than-spectacular.
Like with the whispers, even if that's the final answer with them, it could have been done better. Hurley could have said "I know what these things are" and instead of just having a little chat with Michael, the rest of the characters could have discussed them a little more in-depth and made them make a little more sense. But no, once again, for like the 500th time on this show, no one asked a single question about them. Go figure.
We've all heard that not ever mystery will be answered, and it makes me think that they are giving us some crappy answers so that we don't even want some other answers any more. I think I'd be okay with that.
I mean, they could tell us the island is a crashed alien spaceship and leave it at that, but I rather not know at all then give us some lame explanation without anything else.

You all need to quit whining. The hardest part of a piece of art is the beginning and the end, really especially the end. Do you think you could have done better - in the time allowable? Yeah some of it is cheap type answers, but we all knew it would be somewhat simpler than the complicated theories we all think up, I mean really, who would have "got" it if it did go one of those ways, nothing is perfect, I think they are doing a pretty good job of wrapping things up, while still keeping some mystery for the end - so, carry on, but lets try to keep a good thought.

I just think there could be better delivery vehicles. I'm not poopooing the answers themselves. I have been VERY satisfied with the answers they have given us. I only feel that the DELIVERY was weak.

well, where ever there is art, there are critics. :)
I have to say, i think that IF tptb made mistakes, it is not in the answers, its in over-hyping the mysteries. its a little like the ABC promo's, you know. over-hyped to get you there, and then failure to deliver. but, with TPTB - they deliver, its just -imo- they over-hyped the mysteries along the way.
late last night, WHH was on TV. and the scene where Richard shows up to meet Sawyer and Kate and take Ben, he seemed to appear out of now where, as if he was ethereal. Sawyer even said "where the hell did you come from." so mysterious that Richard was. but, now we know who he is, and there is nothing magical about him. hand, overplayed.
That's just my opinion.

no, angstrom is not a physicist, because that would be ridiculous.
but he has spent his days living in the labs of physicists (Faraday) and geophysicists (Zoe) and he has answers. he may or may not tell jack the answers. it may also be Hurley that he talks to after anggy inevitably bites the dust and is unable to move on from the island. :(:D

i think people are venting because the show is ending; complaining is a way to deal with an impending sense of loss.

I think S6 is moving along with answers about the same pace as S4/S5 did.
We're expecting more from the answers this season, however, and it seems like it's all being saved for the finale. We should be getting hand-fed more stuff so the Finale can really wow us instead of being a show of answers...

I can't see how anyone can really hate season 6 aside from anything to do with Kate. To me it's pretty awesome. We're getting answers, some for those who don't have a brain and others for those who enjoy thinking, and more importantly we're getting complete character arcs. Plus, we're seeing whether everyone would have been better off without the island in their lives.

I have been very satisfied with this season. Watching week to week is always tough with this show, and very slow. Has been all the way back to season one. The criticism of this season surprises me, but with so many people angry it must have some merit. I think it mostly has to do with the flash-sideways which are pretty slow.
I do think when season six is watched in completion, it will be very, very good, comparable to all the rest. I still think seasons three and four were by far the best. I LOVED the fast-forwards, but the flashbacks and flash-sideways I could live without. They are booooring compared to the action on the island.
That saying, if Walt doesnt even get a mention this season I will be very dissapointed. I don't care how much he has aged - it isnt any worse than Matthew Fox.

I don't think people are venting because the show is ending. They're venting because compared to other seasons, this one hasn't been nearly as good or exciting. This season has been moving very slow compared to others. It seems like it's taken them about 75% of the season just to get it started. Pretty much all that's happened is the Losties went to the temple, left the temple, and now some have been sitting around with Locke and the other group's been sitting around at the beach until now. That pretty much sums up what's gone on (at least on the island) all season.
Keep in mind, though, that I didn't like season 3 at first because of how Jack, Kate, & Sawyer were locked up for half the season, but now I love it. :)

I don't think the vast majority believed it was going to be simplier than the theories they thought up. If you have noticed my signature since the beginning of Season 6...all it has been trying to send the message over and over again...... Its MUCH SIMPLIER than you think.
Phillip

This season is slower. What's funny is even the characters want to speed things up. You got Sawyer asking Locke whats taking so long and Locke says they are waiting. it's Season 6! What are we waiting for? I don't need to know what the staff wants to be.
Is it just me or is the Island a light green now? I know that sounds weird but it seems like in seasons past the jungle was like a dark green. This season has felt way more fantasy to me and I couldn't pinpoint why. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I can see why some people think this season is different. Go back to season 4 or 5 and listen to the dialogue between characters. It was much more in detail and the directing was better. I can watch every other season on DVD and stay interested. I don't know if I see myself watching season 6 much on DVD....Maybe the last 3 or 4 episodes because I think they are about to step it up a notch from here on out.

It's funny you put it like that. Here is a section from an interview with lindelof
Lindelof: It’s like when you spend time with a 3-year-old, you quickly find out that one question just begets another — there’s a “why” in the wake of every “why” — and the only way to end the conversation is to say, “Oh look, a Chuck E. Cheese!” The show is doing its best to say, “Oh look, Chuck E. Cheese!” For example, we’ve now given the viewers as much as we’re willing to say about the numbers, and we’re moving on.

The numbers: The numbers are fully explained. I will give a not so brief disartation on their meaning and how they relate after the end of the show. It's really not that complex, and TPTB have already given you everything you need to demystify them. Well not completely demystify because their very nature is mystic, but at least you will understand why they are what they are and how the relate to the big picture.

I'm with Czechmate on this one. The answer to the numbers is already out there, it's just not very easy to figure out. I think Damon even provided some hints in his interviews. One of the cool things about the answer is that depending on your own personal view it’s either a scientific answer or a faith answer.
This is why they won't be providing any more info on the numbers. The creators are not going to make it so it can only be a scientific answer thus angering those wanting a faith answer just like they don't want to make it a faith answer because that would lose the science oriented fan base.
This is the fundamental dilemma the creators are dealing with when answering questions. They know their fan base can be categorized in two groups, those of faith and those of science. You can figure out which type of person you are based on which episodes you liked. Some episodes are based in faith, others in science. If you have a trend of thinking one type of episode is weak and the other is great then you'll know what type you are. I've actually managed to figure out more about friends and co-workers based on what episodes they like and disliked, and now I know before I even talk to them about an episode I have a good idea if they liked it or not.
As 3D has said many times, the show does distinguish between two sides. The creators can't pick a side when answering questions otherwise they will anger their fan base, so they have to be careful how they answer. They have to tip toe around it in such a way that the viewer can answer it themselves in a way that is satisfying.

I think the dilema with providing the audience with every answer, which is illustrated with their Chuck-E-Cheese description as well, and the same problem I have dealt with for over a year on the forum.
You can only explain so much in an hour (or in a post)!!!
Half the people understand what your talking about the other half think your insane or making things up as you go along because they can't see the underlying logic. If you continue to describe things, the people that already understood you, become "bored" with the obvious. The people who are still confused begin more and more to believe you are making things up and eventually realize the show is about "made up concepts", is really just an "illusion", and so they too become bored as well. Its basically the problem with the end as well.
Striking a cord between making the show boring and/or leaving some confused....its no easy task/feat.

thank you stream ive seen 2 of these threads in the past 5 mins and its pissing me off honestly, maybe thats just cuz im peeved with it being a re-run but still i think rachel is completely right if they didnt answer it y'al would be complaining just as much or even more, and yeah stream is right the begining and the end are the hardest parts, same in life, starting the show off it was just another stranded on an island show they had to build the suspense, and ill be honest they lost me a couple episodes into season 1 and i only came back when i saw they series summery thing for season 5 and how awesome it was and did the whole watchin all other seasons whilst watchin that season, thing and im glad we're here, and the end is just as hard they have to find a way to go out that MOST people will like cuz not ALL people will or can like it thats nearly impossible,i think that they are gonna have the last image(which they've been hyping up via matthew fox,who up until they filmed the finale 2 weeks back was the only one who knew it in the cast)be epic
LETS PUT IT THIS WAY!...
they are gonna have that image or scene=all of the jaw dropping, WTF!? screaming, son of a bitch stating,tv punching, nail biting, pants pissing, heart attack having,DVR rewinding, boner killing,breath-taking,epiphany having endings of ALL of the past episodes in one moment and it will be EPIC!. and yes i had fun writing that last sentence haha

For example, we’ve now given the viewers as much as we’re willing to say about the numbers, and we’re moving on.
THAT is exactly what is pissing me off so much about this season. What you're willing to say? WTF is that supposed to mean? Fricking tell us, or don't put them in the show at all.
I think doing the FS for so long without giving us any hint at what they are was the writers overplaying their trust in our confidence in them. And comments like that from the writers really, really torque me off, like when they said they wouldn't be able to answer everything because they were running out of time. Out of time?!? You've known this was coming for three years! There's no excuse for running out of time.
Or the 'we'll wrap up everything that is relevant to the characters' meme. I'm sorry, but this show isn't about what's relevant for the characters, it's about what's relevant to the fans. If they leave this show with as many things hanging as are hanging right now, it indicates to me that they dont' have the respect for the fans that they profess to.
/rant. That one sentence really set me off.

Yea to say they ran out of time is such BS to me. If that was th case they didnt need to let the FS run all the way to the end of the season which really took up half the show and in Desmond's episode it was basically the whole epi. So yea, I am blowing the BS whistle on that statement by TPTB.

If you're gonna give me so much time devoted to illana and bram please give me more than 10 seconds devoted to answering the whispers

Yea and the explanation of the whispers is as laughable as watching Ilana getting blown up and the way Bram puffs up his chest when standing inside the ash ring.
Oh by the way I don't believe the explanation of the whispers

the show comes on tuesday but I don't end up watching until days later.....in seasons past I was glued to the TV screen the night it aired! this season is weird....does anyone else notice the odd camera angles they are using with desmond at certain points...
and what's the deal with zoe and her goofy crew.....they all look like they were cast as a favor to someone or something, those are the best actors to get for their roles????
I love how hurley just blurted out.."oh i think i know what the whispers are" what made him come to that realization all of a sudden? it seemed like very poor writing...
this season seems like they are using different writers and directors.
lame
I'm out
This website won't let you leave. No matter how bad you want to, no matter how many different ways you try, it won't happen. Give it a shot if you don't believe me. You got more thoughts to post, bsjohnson. When you figure that out, I'll be in the Spoiler section.

Is it just me or is the Island a light green now? I know that sounds weird but it seems like in seasons past the jungle was like a dark green. This season has felt way more fantasy to me and I couldn't pinpoint why. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I have been saying this for a while now that one of the things that is bothering me in this season is the lighting it is much brighter than in the past and it is killing me

the end is just as hard they have to find a way to go out that MOST people will like cuz not ALL people will or can like it thats nearly impossible,i think that they are gonna have the last image(which they've been hyping up via matthew fox,who up until they filmed the finale 2 weeks back was the only one who knew it in the cast)be epic
LETS PUT IT THIS WAY!...
they are gonna have that image or scene=all of the jaw dropping, WTF!? screaming, son of a bitch stating,tv punching, nail biting, pants pissing, heart attack having,DVR rewinding, boner killing,breath-taking,epiphany having endings of ALL of the past episodes in one moent and it will be EPIC!
I still find this true now esp. with this last episode, and im assuming from its epicness it has brought hope to those doubting the epicness of the ending, its starting to remind me of all the feelings i had when last season was coming to a close and not just cuz it involves a sub and **** blowing up haha
