View Full Version : Water in Bathroom

Did anyone else notice when Desmond met Widmore in the men's room, Widmore picked up a towel, used the towel to turn on the water, then apparently plugged the drain, never turning off the tap. Later, when Desmond woke up, the water was flooding the bathroom. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what Widmore was up to with the water?? Any thoughts?

oh i would need to go back and watch what order he was doing it all in - it would be odd, if he did it all that way though. like the water was gonna trigger something and he knew about it?

anyone see the movie constantine? wasn't water like a lubricant to pass through dimensions? maybe widmore knew it could help desmond switch through times

hmm have to rewatch to see if water was involved elsewhere.. wasnt it raining when he was having the flashes at the army base?

Yes, it was....I didn't notice Widmore plugging the drain, though. For sure means something......Going to go and re-watch it again.

order of events:

After using and flushing the urinal;

1: picks up towel
2: holding towel, he presses soap despencer with the towel
3: holding tower, the turns on the tap with the towel
4: the turns round and writes on the business card Pennys address (water still on)
5: he hands the address to des and leaves
6: des notices the tap and goes over
7: the used towel is by the side, the sink is filling with water as the plug is in
8: Des touches the handle and flashbacks

From what i can see the sink is empty apart from water and the tower is at the side. Unlike the raining army camp scenes, des is dry at this point.

I think widmore is an ass and didnt want to touch either the tap or used towel now that this hands have been cleaned after urinating and pressing the flush button.

Also, he wouldnt be to know des would flash and fall at that moment, he may have followed him out etc.

Very intriguing possibility though. Des on a ship. Des in the rain. Des and the running water.

Yea, that's bizarre. The strange thing is, I don't think Widmore even washed his hands.

I dont think he washed his hands either. i thought it was weird when i saw it but i just thought he wanted to get away from desmond.

how wierd that i missed it....i did think it odd but just thought that he was germaphobic...i have seen people that use the papertowel to do all of that and open the door to leave cuz they are afraid of germs...maybe he has cancer and is going through treatment (immunocomprimised)...BUT...luv the idea of water being a way to transfer..i have to rewatch this part

Was Widmore having some kind of memory loss and this is a hint of it? Or was it an effect of aging and a not very good short term memory? Dunno!

When it happened I asked myself how did the sink overflow just by leaving the water running? Will have to go back and rewatch.

Oh that is strange! I think you're really onto something there! I don't think they'd have done all that with the water if it wasn't supposed to mean something!

Wait so are you sure Widmore didn't wash his hands or does it just occur off-camera? I had initially just thought that they had him leave the sink on to remind us of what an ******* he is (what kind of person doesn't even care enough to turn the faucet off in a public restroom??), but if he didn't wash his hands that certainly is wierd.

I'm not a germ freak or anything but I'll almost always use a paper towel to open the bathroom door on the way out because touching it with your bare hand completely undoes anything you accomplished by washing your hands. Using a towel to turn the on the faucet and to get soap even before you're just about to wash your hands anyway is something that only someone who has some compulsive issues would do, and if Widmore is that concerned about germs it certainly would mean something is up if he then ends up not even washing his hands at all.

I kind of thought that it showed time passing. But you're right, he didn't touch the faucet on purpose.

Yeah I had thought that Widmore was simply off-camera when he should have been washing his hands because Desmond was saying something and the camera was on him. However, if this was the case, we should at least have seen Widmore drying his hands. Can anyone say for sure?

I thought this first showed that Widmore was a germ freak because he did not want to touch surfaces in a public restroom (although I would imagine that a Sotheby's restroom is immaculate). But what I thought was strange was that when he left the restroom he used his bare hand on the door knob! Any germophobe that would not touch the soap dispenser or faucet would have also used a towel on the door handle when exiting.

As for the water, I think they did that just to show time passage. Widmore did not turn off the water because he either forgot or is just a rich inconsiderate pig. What is troubling is how a restroom sink (at Sotheby's) could get clogged. Because, usually, public restroom sinks would not have drain stoppers.

He doesn't want to leave fingerprints anywhere? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Maybe Mr. Widmore has the same tendency as Des to jump through time and knows that water is the catalyst???? If he does know he wouldn't want to get his hands wet..........just a crazy thought

This is the guy who kept all of Des' letters from Penny. He wants to pay off Des to leave her alone. I can't see why he'd give Desmond the new info (insert snap of fingers) just like that on where she is. He knows something important.

I really like where you are going with this. Also, if there is something on the track of passing dimensions through water, then could this ring true for Charlie too?!?!?!?!? Maybe there is something to say about the water being a transporter and Charlie didn't really "die"???!!?!?!?

This wouldn't have prevented Charlie from dying because only your consciousness time-travels, not your body...and Charlie's body most certainly would still have drowned.

I didn't even think of that...but yeah! We could get really crazy with this theory and even include the whole airplane?!!???!?!!?!!??? The island...everything is touched by water!!!!
Did it crash in the water or on land......I can't remember now!!! LOL My brain is sooooo fried by reading all these threads! :p

Good point Snape, that is true, as proven by Faraday.

i think you are reading to much into the water in the sink. it was just used to show the passage of time and how long des was out.

I was watching the Constant last night and I noticed that. Someone on another site has a theory where water has a lot to do with Dezz passing threw time. And if you notice before that when Widmore first sees him he looks at Dezz like he knows exactly whats goin on. And imidiatly talks to him with no problem. Theres somethin funny with Pennys dad that I hope we find out soon.

If People are correct about Mr. Widmore being the captin of the frieghter then that would mean Desmond and Mr. Widmore would both be in 1996 & 2004. Desmond could be Mr. Widmore's constant. or somthin like that????

I also thought mabey he didn't want his fingerprints anywhere- he didn't touch anything w/o a towl.:o
