The Coffin... and the Spy

So a lot of people think Micahel was in the coffin but then there's that "no, because he was in fact Jack's friend..."

Well if Michael is the spy on the boat, then he'd be siding with Ben, which would mean he is no friend of Jack's....

well i have a feeling jack's whole flash forward with the coffin was after sayid's encounter working for Ben. So it could even be Sayid at this point.

True. That article supposedly said something about the dead man having a teenage son. Sayid could have a son we dont know about, or even weirder, adopted Carl lol.

the guy who was being hauled in a bag with windmore (penny's dad?) could have been who ever is in the coffin. It could have been a video of a flash forward... sayid? maybe?

Just guessin, but Im thinking that the coffin was Juliet. From this episode it is obvious that Jack is connected with her, and in the coffin scene, he was really hurtin. Then he asked Kate why she didn't go, and she obviously didn't care for who ever it was. Jack was the only one that liked her, hence why he was the only one there?!?

but what about the newspaper clipping said a MAN was found hanged. i guess it could have said WOman and we couldn't read it properly

I think it is waaay too far in advance to be predicting who is in the coffin. That is clearly something that happens in the very distant future and there is so much that is going to happen between now and then that when we do find out we'll realize that this is was all just random speculation.

Im willing to bet it was Juliet. The beginning of the episode seemed to trick us into thinking that she was one of the survivors and was dealing with the pressures of celebrity. This may elude to her getting off the island. On another note we know now that Ben wont be too happy about her and Jack smooching so it may be that Ben is behind her death.

I think Sawyer is in the coffin because when Jack mentioned it to Kate at the airport she got mad and said she would not go to see him, and the way she sounded I just got the feeling it was Sawyer

She just said why would I go to the funeral

KATE: Why did you call me, Jack?

JACK: I was hoping that you'd heard. That maybe you'd go to the funeral.

KATE: Why would I go to the funeral?

JACK: I've been flying a lot.

I think that it is Ben in the coffin and at this point Jack realizes that they have to go back to the island, the losties have to now protect the island cause Widmore kills Ben at some point. Thus jack is really upset cause he now realizes that he has to take on the responsiblity of the island. Then he trys to get Kate to help and she doesnt want to go back cause of Arron she doesnt want to bring him back there. I think for 3 reasons 1 his mother still on the island, 2 this is the place where his mother died (either on the island or the boat), or 3 just cause the island is well... the island and she doesnt want a kid there.

According to an article in Entertainment Weekly 2 weeks ago, that mystery will be solved by the end of this season.

The article mentioned 3 points of interest; Michael's return, the identity of Jacob, and who is in the coffin. So the mystery of who is dead, may be a lot closer to being revealed than previously considered.
