Ok - I believe some of these ideas have already been posted but I'm going to give it a go anyway...
IMO there will be a space\time\phase shift in either the next episode or the finale or both. This will bring sideways versions of our characters back to the island and we will be able to see their interactions with our current versions of our characters. I also believe we have seen these interactions already...
Walt appearing to Shannon... Sawyer behind the camera in the opening of season 5... Faraday passed out in the Swan... Sawyer in the boar hunting scene of Across the Sea. These are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head. Last nights epi with Sawyer in the boar hunting party solidified it for me.
The reason we don't get to see full-on views of them is because they are somehow morphed by the 'phase' of being from the sideways timeline. This, for me at least, would asnwer myriad questions...
Some of those being -
Walt's garbled communication and his appearence dripping wet... Whose shooting at Sawyer et al in the outrigger... The aforementioned 'sightings' of certain characters... so on and so on.
I believe this is Jacob's end-game to bring versions of possible 'dead' candidates back to the island to assume their role as the candidate and to heal the fracture in time\space that was caused by the 'incident'. Which ultimatley can only be fixed by keeping Jacob from sending MiB into the 'Light' and becoming the smoke monster. Effectively ending the MiB gambit of bringing Locke back to the island. This is why I believe it is Sawyer in the boar hunting party because Desmond knows they have to be sent back THAT far and the only one that can complete the task of bringing the two timelines together is one that can endure the massive exposure to the island's EM forces.
How'd I do?
