Desmond is in two places at one time...
why can't Ben be on the island
AND on the boat?
Good thought,I thought for sure we would find out last night who it was on the boat,no such luck. The way Ben told Locke" you might want to sit down for this" makes me think it's going to be a real shocker. Can't wait.

Yes that has been puzzling me "Who is the spy?'". I thought about it and came up with what I think is a good conclusion. Correct me if I am wrong but is it possible that the spy is Mr. Eko. After the hatch collapsed we never seen or heard of him again. Is everyone assuming that he is dead. I have strong feelings that this is Ben's spy. And could someone please tell me how to start my own thread. Thanx

Eko was killed by the smoke monster. He was beaten to death and dragged around the jungle.
If Ben has specific knowelege of time, and perhaps the means to minipulate it, then at this point of the show, either Desmond or Sayid could be the "man on the boat".

maybe, but isn't capturing ben one of the stated missions of the freighter 4? i doubt ben would make it that easy for them.

this could be an easy guess, but we already know that sayid works for ben in the flash forward, so first guess would be him...

but then again......sayid wasnt on the boat until after daniel, miles, and charlotte arrived. that wouldnt give him enough time to identify them all to ben.

It's totally going to be Michael. Ben saying "you may want to sit down for this". It's obviously someone Locke knows. We're meant to think it would be Sayid after seeing the flash forward, but that's too obvious for Lost. It is totally Michael. He would be useful to the people on the boat and Penny's dad because he could provide information about the island.

I know for a fact who it is. If you want to know read on...
It HAS to be Michael for several reasons. Harold Perrineau Jr., the actor who plays Michael is scheduled to make his first appearence on the next episode, "Ji Yeon." Also, Ben said to Locke, "You might want to sit down for this..." meaning it is someone he knows and someone he doesn't expect. Third he gave Michael the boat and we don't know what was said to him before he left to get the people on the list.
But mainly because Harold Perrineau Jr. has been in the opening credits the entire season and hasn't yet made an appearence. I hope I didn't spoil it for some of you but I figured it out and want to feel special. ;]

This is just my crazy theory. I have noticed since the folks from the freighter showed up that the pilot bares a VERY strong resemblence to Locke - ESPECIALLY around the eyes (wrinkes, anyone???). I haven't paid much attention online as to WHO the actor is who plays him especially since the 'guest' characters are not really listed. I think that he is related to Locke in some way.....a brother perhaps??? Could be that Terry O'Quinn is playing both characters......hmmm. We'll find out. When Ben said - "you better sit down for this" my thoughts grew even stronger. Could be totally nuts - but that's just me.

Michael is on the boat, but I'm not convinced he's Ben's spy....sorry....it's too obvious and the character is too much of a dummy to pull that off.

This should end any debate.
brought to you by executive producer Damon Lindelof:
''Yes, we know you have all figured out who Ben's man on the boat is. But once we've confirmed that for you, there's still TEN MINUTES OF SHOW LEFT.''
+++
Damon is undoubtedly responding to the fact that for several weeks now, all of us (or enough of us to create the impression of an ''all'') have assumed that our old friend Michael — the raft-building, desperate dad who killed Ana Lucia and Libby in order to get his abducted son back — is Ben's spy on the freighter.

Oh boy, that news excites me dearly! I'm excited to see what this last 10 minutes is!
Particularly, if I'm not mistaken, since this is the last episode for a while until they return with more. I'm pretty sure I remember them saying they had 8 episodes, but since the strike ended they will make more. So they said they will end for a little break at Episode 7 because it had a better ending to it and then pick back up in a few weeks as the new episodes are ready.

Damon is my baby daddy. No it's out there you just have to know where to look. Why give away the surprise? Because maybe the last 10 minutes is what we should really be wondering about and not the fact that Michael is back.

IMO Walt's going to knock of his dad. We know that Walt is working in the best interest of the island and his father isn't. I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't happen n the last 10 minutes;-)
Then again if Harold has a credit in next week's episode, maybe not:P

Seriously though, I think there's definitely more to it than just Michael being a spy for Ben - definitely only half the twist of tonights episode. As I said in another thread, Michael has always been a pawn for Ben to use and may just be a cover up for the real spy on the boat.

I think I have a theory on Ben’s man on the boat. This theory is a little out there so bear with me. First of all I don’t think the man is Michael. Why? First because it’s just way too obvious to be Michael, everyone thinks it’s him so that why I think it’s not him. You know as well as I do that the writers of lost loves to throw crazy curve balls at us. Second, how (if it is indeed Michael) can a construction worker and aspiring sketch artist from New York be able to infiltrate and spy on a group of shady and down right creepy set of characters on a freighter. Remember how fast Michael folded when Jack confronted him about the whole “Let’s Get Walt Back” fiasco. He broke down faster then a 1971 Ford Pinto on an expressway. I don’t think Michael can keep a secret let alone be a spy. Last thing with Michael being able to infiltrate this creepy group is time. I don’t think he had enough time to find rescue, get back to shore safely with Walt, leave Walt with a trusted someone, infiltrate the shady group, somehow getting on the boat that is trying to find the island, all that with out any kind of formal military training or “spy-skill” if you will. Which bring me to my theory. I believe Ben’s man on the boat is none other than Kelvin Inman. Who you may ask? Yes, that Kelvin, the co-architect of the infamous blast door map and Desmond’s buddy from the Swan. You want to talk about a person who is more than qualified to infiltrate such a mysterious organization; the guy was a “spook” for crying out loud! I believe there is still some story behind this guy and the writers are bringing him back. Sure he had a little fight with Desmond and bumped his head on a rock. So what, that doesn’t mean that he died. Maybe Desmond thought he killed him, left him there, Kelvin was found by the others, he was taken care of, Ben looked into his past, offered him a deal to get off the island and work for him. Or maybe he was working for Ben all along. You never know.
