Smoke Monster as Walt? [Archive]

Hello, this is my first thread and post^^,

I was wondering, can the Smoke Monster only take the form of dead people?
Walt is not dead, but it appeared to me that the Monster took his form when he appered to Shannon. How could Walt get there, or why would he get there?
