When Juliet and Ben are talking about the children from the plane, Ben says:

"They're on the list Juliet. Who are we to question who's on the list and who's not."

This definitely implies that someone other than Ben determines "the list".

Weeeel, die hard fans and die hard theories here goes: the whole idea of a preconceived list of who are the "good ones" on the plane and that the plane will crash and make them available to the others opens up a huge kooky kettle of fish. The sicky ones were not apparently on the list. My idea is that good may mean no gross abnormalities, personality defects, etc. It could also mean a skill-based prerequisite that was needed to fill vacancies in the colony. It could be a blood type or a gene pool for the--- TAH DAH!---cloning program. Otherwise, You got me!

I always thought it was Jacobs list.

You are right on that, but who is the elusive Jacob? So far he is a very shadowy figure with no known forwarding address! Is he Ben's alter ego so that Ben could say Jacob gave him the list when it's really Ben's list? We just don't know and that's what makes this all so much fun! We're all fellow travelers and we haven't hit the ground yet.Hah!

i agree. i think since he was trying to impress juliet at the time, had he been the one composing the list, he would have said so.

yeah i am assuming its jacobs list - he did say that goodwin wanted to present a case for ana lucia to be on the list and i am sure he referenced whoever makes the list as a 'he'.

however, the fact that cases can be presented for people to be added to the list is really interesting to me - there are obviously something that determines how you get on it, but discretion can be used aswell. kate and sawyer were on the list but neither jack nor hurley were - what makes the latter 2 different from the former 2 and is there one list or many?

I have no clue about this list. I just found that scene odd that they didn't seem to be scrambling to figure out why Desmond almost didn't push the button in time.

You think they would have been buzzing about that just prior to seeing the plane coming down.

but do they know that its desmonds delay that caused the plane crash? desmond only mentioned that to locke i think, not to anyone else and as far as i can remember not any of the others.

Yes, the list confuses me as regards to who's on it! If you were to argue over who was good or bad, you'd say Kate and Sawyer were bad and all bad people were on the list, but if the kids are on the list then it makes it different again, I don't know why people are on the list at all at this stage
