actually, it was one of my favorite movies in recent time. This movie has far more depth then you would think just watching it once through. There is a ton of viral websites out there similar to what Lost does, and believe me, this is only the beginning.

I expect atleast one sequel, possibly a full hollywood version of the events, or maybe the same story from a different perspective.

The biggest website connection for this movie is Slusho, a slushy type drink that has been seen everywhere. One of the charactors on Heroes was seen drinking it. The story goes, a Japanese company doing research deep on the ocean floor discovered this substance, a kind of nectar. Its really sweet and good, but the only way to enjoy it is if its frozen or slushy, because the temperature at the bottom of the ocean is so cold, thats how its preserved.

Anyway, when they were extracting it, apparently some deep ocean creature touched it or ate it(not sure), but this caused the creature to grow thousands of times in size, creating the monster that was in the movie. The mini monsters are infact parasites that were on the ocean creature, and they were tiny and grew to the size of the mini monsters thanks to the same nector.

I could have some of that wrong, but there is more then just some random monster, theres a bit of a back story and a big mystery involved. i suggest you look it up, you wont be disappointed, especially considering i know how much you like Lost!

i dunno - never made it to the end. not through choice - toddler who is scared of the dark decided it for me!!!

it seemed your typical hollywood fare and i didnt like that the monster was spotted so early. however, the fact that i am not gutted i had to switch it off kinda says a lot.....

Sorry to say i saw cloverfield and didnt really enjoy it.

In theory i liked the idea of the realistic filming, like the people in the movie were running and filming,(not unlike another hyped up film of recent years)but in all honesty it just made me feel motion sick!

The film was quite short, which made it a little easier to watch, the special effects were ok.Just wasnt my cup of tea i think..friends enjoyed it though so i suppose it could be worth a watch if u manage to geta babysitter Bunny:)

the one thing you gotta realize when watching this movie is that it is just a piece of evidence that military is using to figure out what all happened. There are probably thousands of pieces of evidence. This was said to be a tape found in central park, so it was a handycam tape, you should look at it as just that.

This is only the beginning of the mystery, there just has to be a sequel. Seriously, this movie is much deeper then it appears at first glance. If you like Lost, you will like this movie once you start to understand it...

Yeah Jmarcroyal I have heard rumours that the sequel will be a 'tape' from another view point which is very clever, still jst not my fave film though:)

thats one thing people have to remember, when you see Cloverfield, you arent watching a movie, you are watching classified video that was found in Central Park relating to project Cloverfield. If you watch it thinking its a hollywood movie, you will more then likely be disapointed.

It sounds much more interesting after you explain it. I'll have to watch it online and see if I like any better. I guess I just didn't get it the first time around.

i started to watch it thinking it was going to be something diff and not hollywood at all (not a big fan) but felt that even though it was filmed in such a way that it was meant to be realistic and one regular persons view of an attack on new york - it still reeked of hollywood.

have yet to watch the ending though.

I don't know. I thought it was okay. But did anyone else notice that in the beggining when they say where the video came from, if you look in the lower right side of the screen there was a Dharma logo? I didn't see it the first time through, but then when I went with a different group of friends, someone had told me about it so I looked closer and saw it. It was pretty shaky but you could see that it was definitly a Dharma symbol.

Oh, you've GOT to be kidding!! I was halfway looking for cross over to LOST but didn't see any. You make me want to go see it again. I liked Cloverfield. If you think about it, it's really a story about friendship, love and loyalty in a moment of extreme duress. I'm also hoping they do a full production that plays off the "home video".

Hi! I just saw Cloverfield today and loved it, but I tend to like movies that are a little off-beat. I really would like to see it again, but on DVD so I can stop, rewind, and close caption!

I liked cloverfield.

As far as storyline goes it left a lot to be desired.
So if you are looking to see something clever, etc then this is not it.

On to the plus side: Probably the best "experience" i've had in a theater. I hate using that word. However, thats really what this movie is about. Its not about the storyline, etc. There aren't any real dramatic twists or anything. You feel like you are there in the warzone though.

I really liked it. It feels like a very good ride at Universal or something.

i havent seen cloverfield yet, but my fiance did and liked it....but after seeing that, and hearing an interview with j.j. abrams (www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/205) about his love for the 'mystery box' and how he loves to open new mysteries, and instead of solving them or resolving them, he just opens up a new mystery. so now my fiance is worried that's how lost will end up- no real end. just a bunch of pissed off fans saying 'did i just invest all these years watching this show for THAT ending?'
i understand wanting an audience to think about it long after its off the air, but ....eek. that would be annoying. i hope the writers read the blogs and know to actually answer a lot of the questions!

Wow, I'm really surprised at a lot of the reaction to the film.
It's one of my very favorite movies.
I loved the filming style and I REALLY loved that they didn't explain ANYTHING.
I was white knuckle gripping the armrests the whole way through.
But, that may be because I had to hold my bladder for the whole movie.

perhaps they showed the monster too soon?

or perhaps too much hype is a bad thing.

I enjoyed it...was very well put together, and the camera tracking on the effects was masterful.

Dunno if anyone watched past the end of the credits, but there's reversed whispering that says "It's still alive". Abrams sure does love his edited whispers!

Good stuff! Thanks for the info.

Even though I loved Cloverfield, I don't want there to be a sequel.
I think they should let it stand on it's own.

I thought it was good - the start of the film was endless - the party sequence, and I was getting really bored with it, BUT the fact that it went on for so long made it scarier when the city was attacked, and the suddenness was more unnerving. I liked how it ended too, it was more realistic than most films!

I really liked it. I liked the fact that you saw the monster, but even after the hour was up, you weren't any wiser about what the hell it was. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. XD

I'm going to have to look for that dharma symbol...

The whisper said its still alive :( kinda annoying. i don't think a sequel could have the same impact. i loved the film the build up was exceptional but it just turned into another godzilla. It was a great experience nevertheless

i agree - the build up to the film was actually better than the film - far more mysterious!

I loved Cloverfield, best movie iv seen this year so far. I loved the monster too it wasnt just some stupid lizard or ape it was something out of the ordinary. And I thought it was realistic as ever if something like that happend it just seems like thats how it could go down. I loved how they introduced the monster too, everythings all good at the party then BOOM explosions outa nowhere then statue of libertys in your backyard it was priceless. I realy hope for a sequel soon I know there ganna make one I just hope soon. I herd it was ganna be another camera point of view because in the movie on the bridge sequence the guy holding the camera moves it on this other guy holding a camera and I read in a JJ Abrams interview that he said most likely it was ganna be that guys point of view. I hope tho that it will reveal more about the monster tho. For those who have seen it did you notice at the end when there in Coney Island before the attack and you see something fall into the water on the top right side of the screen. JJ Abrams said that was not the monster but a satelite that fell from the sky and that it awoke the monster and thats how it all started. Good movie tho cant wait for DVD. Does anyone know a good site to see it for free DVD quality?

i heard that this movie is a prequel to the new star trek film. sounds strange at first, but if that creature came from outer space, maybe....

I saw it the other day and thought it kinda sucked. The whole hand held camcorder thing just stunk of "Blair Witch" to me. I thought the acting was pretty pap and it really bothered me that they went back for that girl. As if you would.....the whole city is being attacked by a giant who knows what, the army are evacuating everyone, your other friend has just been shot in the head coz she got attacked by a crazy monster thing and they continue to go looking for their friend? I dunno.....I thought it was a pretty poor movie. Can't understand all the hype.

I enjoyed it, but I was also really bothered by the fact they went back for the girl. I know he loved her and all, but after he watched his brother die, he barley shed a tear. Instead, he saw looters raiding an electronics store, and decided to grab a battery for his cell phone so he could listen to the message from his girl. It just seemed to me he cared more about his girl than he did his brother and his friends.

I liked it. It wasn't my favorite movie, but i liked it. I agree with whoever said that it made them feel motion sick, if you can get past that and think about the fact that this is a hand-camera, the movie is pretty good. But just in case, I'd rent it before you buy it!

I dont know Ive only seen the movie once and I didint think it was all that good. I thought they were in the party way too long, the camera was so annoying and traveling that far for a chick that you arent in a relationship with? seems a bit odd to me, but if they made a sequel I probably would go see it.

I saw it and really liked it!

I didn't see any of the advertising for it (beleive it or not) because we don't do cable TV. I heard about it on this board and went and got it before I read any more. I think that it was a little over the top on the camera woggeling, but overall it was a good story.

I think that a sequal could work if it is from another camera that was found in the rubble. The same events worked from a completely different point of view would be neat.

I saw Blair Witch, I didn't really see any connection except for the sucky camera stuff.
