I think that Ben is the ultimate power of the others....i think that they are all in it together....i don't see them as bad cuz they are protecting the island from the "real world".....Ben has very little weakness (the only one now that we see is Juliette and his obsession with her cuz maybe she reminds him alot of his mom)....the others are more human in weakness obv.....cheating...etc...

the others are just following ben's orders so i guess i don't blame them for anything. most of them appear to have been suckered to being on the island too.

regarding ben - he earns points with me for protecting the island and opposing widmore, but he loses points for not letting anyone leave. if supposedly no one can find the island, why not let people leave? for now i give ben the benefit of the doubt because i think widmore is a really, really bad guy.

my only question regarding ben's is whether he's protecting the island for his own selfish gain or if he's doing it for the "greater good" - whatever that might be.

I love Ben!

But the thing that makes me think is

How come the Others care so much about keeping Ben sweet when they know Juliet is having an affair with Goodwyn?

Is it because they think he's a bit of a psycho?

In that case, if they think he's a bit of a psycho, then why would they believe there's actually a Jacob, and that he's not just making it all up?

Ben knows that information is power and fear is a great motivator - he said he always has a plan...I like that. He is great at reading people and then manipulating them.

Goodwin didn't seem to fear Ben and look what happened to him. The fact that Juliet would even entertain Ben's message via Harper shows what kind of hold Ben has on his people.

I don't know what the Others believe regarding Ben and Jacob and why - that would be a great flashback though.

I don't think that he is protecting the island for any selfish purposes.....i mean I wuz just saying on another thread that Rose and Locke were healed of their cancer and paralysis cuz the powers of the island....But Ben was not and was dying...he did not try and leave the island to find a spinal surgeon with a chance of cure...he was going to stay there and die while protecting it....to me it seems to be for the greater good:)

HAHAHA I loved the expression on his face when Juliet tried to ask him 'innocently' about Goodwyn coming back to them - it was so good!

Age doesnt seem to imply on the others, like Richards, when Ben was a kid Richard only had longer hair. And when we see Walter, he is much older than he was when he left the Island in season 2

Good point JN. Ben could have skipped town to get the surgery he needed unless, of course, he knew jack would be coming to him. I'm giving Ben the benefit of the doubt. He could have killed all the 815 survivors in the first episode if he'd wanted.
