I think that Ben is actually really one of the "good guys".... i think that he will stop at nothing to protect the island.....he likes to be in the middle of everything though so he can manipulate people the way he needs to in order to keep on track with preservation of the island....i think that he remains mysterious cuz he is the key to all of this!!

i agree JN...plus from what we have seen so far regarding widmore, he's a really bad guy so if ben is opposing him, ben is probably doing something right.
