Hey all! I have a couple of questions about carrying an archery bow at the con. I am doing a Narnia costume, and a bow is an important part of my costume. However, I am concerned about being stopped by security for carrying one. I have an actual recurve bow, however, it was bought used on ebay for really cheap, and I doubt it actually works. The arrows I am making will not have arrowheads, and are made from dowel rods, and kept in the quiver. The one arrow with an arrowhead on it (for pictures) is con-safe - the arrowhead will be made out of foam. Would it be okay to carry this bow? I obviously would not point it towards anyone; at the most, it and the one arrow would be pointed towards the floor for pictures, away from people. Most of the time it would merely be carried.
On a related note, the bow will be strung. I know you are not supposed to leave a bow strung, but I am adding decorative tips to the ends with sculpy, and am afraid they will break off when a bow stringer is attached. Therefore, I was thinking of just stringing it the one time before attaching the tips, since I will never use it for a working bow. I know I could put some regular string or something on it instead (and I will if I have to for security reasons), but it is mostly straight without the string, and the character's bow has the curved effect that a recurve bow has.
Please let me know your thoughts! I definitely don't want to get in any trouble over a mere prop. :)
