View Full Version : Reverse Racism

Has anyone else been paying attention to the Shirley Sherrod thing? I've noticed people on tv refer to "reverse racism" when speaking of a minority discriminating against a white person. Shouldn't that just be called racism? I don't get why white people can only be called racist. Just wondering if I'm alone on this. I know there are many people not from the US on this forum. The story I'm referring to relates to a stupid media driven story about race here in the US.

Who?

Shirley is a woman who worked for the agriculture dapartment. She gave a speech to the NAACP and told a story about how she didn't want to help a white farmer keep his land because lots of black farmers were losing their land. A blog site posted the video but edited the end where she decided to help the white family. The government actually fired her before they saw the whole video. Which is kinda scary that the administration woul make decisions based on YouTube clips. But that's not my point.

I just think it's sad people that people classify racism in categories. You are either racist or you're not. Isn't classifying a person a reverse racist based on their color actually racist?

Sounds about right to me.

Here in N.O. we're equal opportunity racists. You can be discriminated against by somebody no matter what your race is.

I've been following it since the night it aired.

Tom Vilsack obviously proved he is an idiot, and jumped the gun. But the NAACP denounced her speech just as quick.

The whole thing is a mess.

If there's anything anyone learned from Lost, it's not to judge a group by one person's actions. Racism, sexism, whatever form of discrimination is wrong, no matter who it is directed at.

Of course all news people are biased. :p

JfromtheD
07-27-2010, 02:28 AM
Not necessarily, there are a lot out there who are pretty even keeled.

And I don't even mind the bias. It's when they pretend they aren't that I have issues with.

Nemesis Prime

The whole issue is completely out of control. I would bet that if a poll was taken that the majority ion this country would be found to not be racist at all and yet the issue pops up somewhere just about everyday. To me this has just become another word to further any number of different groups own interests. Whether that be the media, naacp, immigrant groups etc.

I'm not going to be white anymore, I'm going to be Irish American, maybe then I can use the word to my advantage as well.

In England Racism is Racism it doesnt matter who the person is spouting the hate.It makes me laugh because the U.K was invaded numerous times by Vikings,Normans, Saxons,Romans etc so nobody is a pure breed of anything and i think this applies globally. In my eyes racism is ignorant and pointless.

Re: Fox news... Fox is biased to the right as MSNBC is biased to the left. That's just life.

I agree. I know what I'm getting with both networks. That includes the news portion of the day. Not just the nightly entertainment news. During the day on fox I'll get more of a conservative view. On msnbc I'll get more liberal slanted news. During the elections I actually like CNN. They have really good election coverage. I would say they are in the middle of the 3 major networks.

It's funny though cause then you have jeraldo Rivera on fox on sat and his show has turned into entertainment tonight.

It was a real bitch to grasp, but once you've done it a few times, it will start to click in your head.

In the embed code the URL shows up in quotes twice. Typically in the 2nd line and again in the 3rd from the bottom.

The second line in your video is this:
value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_j9BbR6bI_I&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param

Right before the last quotation mark, you add the start time (&start=)... but it must be in seconds. So 5 minutes 30 seconds= 330
value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_j9BbR6bI_I&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1&START=330"></param><param

Dont worry about what comes before or after... just look for that end quote of the URL and add &start= before it.

I once tried to get into the Clerks and Checker's Union on the docks down here. The feds had come down on them because it was an all white union. It was one of those things where you had to know some one to get the job but feds had implemented a program where the Union had to publicly announce that they were hiring and applicants would be hired according to how their scores rated on a test the Gvt. had put together.

When they announced that they were hiring 50 people over 1500 applied. I took the test and had one of the 50 highest scores. I didn't get the job. Of the people hired all were black and most were women. I was disappointed but figured, oh well that's fair. Then I found out the longshoreman's union which was all black didn't have to announce hirings and didn't have to give competitive tests. They just continued to hire family and friends. In other words it was ok for them to remain all black.

Stories like this get repeated often. It's sad, and what really bothersome is that the black people who think this is the right thing to do often don't realize it makes them just look worse. And the white people who support it do so out of fear and/or guilt, which doesn't make it right either.

Here in NY, when a some white teenagers beat up a couple of black teens and scream "the N word" (I hate using that phrase), it's front page news and it's a "hate crime" and Reverend Al pokes his fat head into the picture.

When the reverse happens, and the black kids scream out racial epithets, etc., it's buried in the paper, if reported at all, and the race of the attackers isn't mentioned. There is no one screaming about hate crimes and no protests about it.

What a country.

Having worked for the FAA at one time, he is very lucky he is only getting charged with criminal mischief and a few other things. He broke a major regulation by opening an emergency door and activating an emergency chute without an emergency. He violated another regulation when he landed on the tarmac ... only trained personnel are supposed to be down there. The only exception being when passengers are being guided to/from a plane for embarkation/debarkation. He could be hit with a federal theft charge for stealing the alcohol. The guy is getting off very easy.

I understand his frustration, but as an employee working under strict FFA guidelines, he should have known better.

Horus you bad boy are you back? You better behave;)

I wasn't aware I left. Behave? You sound like my mother. She gave up on me about 20 years ago ... you should do the same. :p

Maybe it's time to go house hunting in Mexico... less embarrassing there, I'm sure. ;)

As far as that stewardess, he snapped. Luckily he snapped while the plane was on the ground... what if it wasn't?

That would be steward and not stewardess. And if he would have tried that manuever at 30K feet it would have been much more entertaining and news worthy.

Incidentally, if I had any respect for the guy he would be a "flight attendant."

What exactly are you trying to imply?

I hate the whole politically correct thing ... they are stewards and stewardesses. Flight attendant ... what the hell is that?

I think Dr Laura's biggest mistake was apologizing.

That sounds stupid, but at least she could have made an argument for saying it.
Apologizing just admits that she's an assh0le who got off by saying the word on air.

I absolutely HATE that word, from anyone or anybody, white, black, red or green!
(funny to use the word 'hate' when talking about a word that instills it, I know.)
