just thought i would throw you guys a bone. If you want a clue into what this is all about check out the song jack is listening to in the future flash. Its Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana. Kurt Cobain wrote that song about the main character from Perfume'(a book by Patrick Suskind 1985) Read what the book is about and that should help some. This song wasnt picked by accident. Good luck ya all

Lyrics

Ok. So i dug up the Lyrics for everyone. here they are

Like most babies smell like butter
his smell smelled like no other
he was born scentless and senseless
he was born a scentless apprentice

Go away - get away, get away, get a-way
every wet nurse refused to feed him
electrolytes smell like semen

I promise not to sell your perfumed secrets
there are countless formulas for pressing flowers

I lie in the soll and fertilize mushrooms
Leaking out gas fumes are made into perfume

You can't fire me because I quit
Throw me in the fire and I won't throw a fit

A little about it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Scentless Apprentice" is based on the German novel Perfume, by Patrick Süskind. Published in 1985, the novel tells the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a boy born without body odour but with a heightened sense of smell. Grenouille grows up to be a perfume apprentice, and uses perfume to mask his lack of odour. He also becomes a murderer, stealing the smells of his female victims in his quest to create a human odour for himself. More recently, the source material was filmed as Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.

In a 1993 MuchMusic interview, Cobain claimed that his copy of Perfume almost never left his pocket. Cobain said he related to Grenouille's alienation.

Cobain also related to Grenouille's fascination with odor. "I’m really interested in smells," he revealed in a 1993 Spin interview. "I think I’d like to own a perfumerie someday."

How it relates to LOST

Your the first that iv heard even give a lick why this song was put into Jack's Flash Fwd. But im glade you did think about it. In my opion. This song Scentless Apprentice is in refrance to how Jack is some what folowing in his father's foot steps. By having shatterd faith and a life of depression and drugs and alchol to give you the slightest bit of satisfaction that your worth living in this world. Even though his father didnt us edrugs or atleast wasn't shown yet using drugs. He did however use something almost like drugs in fact many may argue is more dangerous and addicting than any drug outlaw and that is he used Alchol.

....I actually have that book and have started reading it like 10 times and never finished it. Guess I'm going to have to this time! I knew there had to be some significance to Nirvana playing-I was confused b/c if you ever watch shows like Closed Case Files or even October Road I think, Nirvana usually serves as a clue into what time period the scene is taking place (Hello grunge days of the 90's...I had the huge poster of the band w/ Kurt in his sunglasses, I'm not gonna lie :) And with all the talk of time travel, I thought it had something to do with that, especially with talk of Jack's dad being alive, the healing powers of the island etc. Anyone ever read Slaughterhouse 5 and Vonnegut's recurring image of Time Travel and coming undone in time? Surprised that one hasn't popped up (or I've missed it)
