Ok. I have been on a long watch so i've been looking things up ALL night. See I got into LOST mid-season 3, so i had no idea about the LOST Experience. Along with the new Dharma station, and completing find815 I have come up with a theory, however non-linear and messy it may be.

Dharma Initiative's whole purpose was to change the valenzetti equation so as to change the date of the end of the world, or in other words, extend human life. The writers and producers said that the lostees didn't get there by any means of time travel, BUT that doesn't rule time travel out, because Dharma very well could have the capabilities of it. I also feel that time goes by slower on the island because they have been there 80 days, which would take them to November 14th, 2004. Oceanic-air re-opened air travel on December 28th, 2007 in the event of the discovery of the 815 wreckage. Is it a property of the Island, or did Dharma Initiative actually figure out how to slow down time? Also the wreckage was found in the Indian Ocean, which is REALLY odd, because they should've crashed in the South Pacific.

So here is what I think. I think Jack and Hurley want to go back because they know the world is going to end, and they want to escape that fate.

I believe life extention is involved in many ways, but that is not why Jack wants to go back.He and the other 5 that make the oceanic 6 made a dealand it seems it was a deal that hurt the lives of alot of people.
