I think the purpose of the flashback was simple drama to keep us offguard when considering the details of Sun's flashforward.

yeah!! maybe Ben manipulates him like he does sayid and he lets Sun leave to have the baby if Jin works for him!!!! We can hope!! The memorial/grave was there after the crash for sun and jin and maybe Sun is pretending like he is dead(or thinks he actually is)....maybe we will see him doing Ben's dirty work at some point!!!!(agree that Jin's was flashback)

I hope you are right with Ben being involved if Jin is indeed still alive. I doubt Sun is pretending; they would drop a hint somehow if that were true.

I don't think Jin is really dead. He just doesn't get off the island with Sun. Remember jack wants to get back, but he can't and there is a conspiracy for the Oceanic 6 to keep quiet about the rest of the survivors on the island. Sun probably doesn't think she will ever see him again, so he seems "dead to her.

I seem to remember somewhere on the boards that a major character may die in the future but that doens't mean they are off Lost until later in the shows seasons.
I had always assumed this character would be the one we saw in the coffin in jack's flashforward in Through The Looking Glass:confused.
According to Jack in Eggtown, 8 people survived Oceanic Flight 815. Two of them died in the crash and the other 6 were left to survive for themselves. If the date on the tombstone read the same as the date the plane crashed then it's possible Jin is in fact on the island. Or maybe it was a part of the secret that jack was talking about.
Who the hell knows?

My initial thoughts about him wanting to look at the ambassador's baby ( once I figured out the flash back/forward thing), was that it might have been Jin's baby.

...Sorry if this is not the place for it, but here we go:
The dharma initiative is a time controled consortium of people put in place to study the effects of mass groups of humans effected by time manipulation. This study was started by the guy that considers desmond his "CONSISTENT", and is being funded by Penelopes father. The island is used as a time "CONSISTENT". The island is basically a time controlled laboratory that the oceanic flight stumbled upon. Ben wants to keep people there in order to keep them from being used as lab rats and live freely, where as Penelopes father wants to keep it secret to make a nice silver dollar off of it when it is finally perfected. The characters come into play as flash forwards or backs (i.e. jin unable to go into suns birthing room) as a simple fact that once time has been breached, there is no returning to what may have been if they had decided differently on the island. The voices heard on the island are nothing but voices from the past (the place is a time warp). The unseen character in the cabin (Jacob) is an old spirit that still lives on the island, and still calls the shots.............

Jin either died making sure Sun made if off the island, or got stuck there during the struggle to get her off.
Jin is a bad ass, and is going to out fighting...

dude you said jin is unable to go into suns birthing room... (you got that wronggg)
in jins flashback that wasnt sun in that room with the baby that was the ambassadors daughter...and i looked at her face, it was not sun.
in suns flashforward we never see jin just sun yelling for him.........

In one night, Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros were both pulled over for drunk driving. Not long after that, Ana Lucia and Libby are both shot by Michael. Not too long ago, Daniel Dae Kim was pulled over for drunk driving. I'm not at all surprised to see him go.

I agree Jin is not "dead" he knew that if Sun did not get off that island he would lose her and the baby, Jin sacrificed himself and let Sun leave the island though they may never see each other again. Sun was grieving over Jin as if he was dead because she may not get back to the island, and at least she had Hurley as a support. So the Oceanic 6 are Sayid, Sun, Hurley, Jack, Kate and baby Aaron. They need to go back!

Yes, time on the island flows differently. It may well be the case that the survivors spent weeks on the island, while in the outside world it was still September 22, 2004.

The calandar on the freighter matched the time frame of the island. And when des called Penny it was Christmas Eve.

When I first watched this epi I thought for sure that Jin was dead. When I re-watched I changed my mind. Enough time has passed that all of the other passengers would have been declared dead. There would have been burial ceremonies with tombstones listing the date of the crash. Now I think Jin is alive but Sun thinks she will never see him again. The grave side visit is the only way she has to deal with this grief. :waffles: (Unless he is O7 or O8, that is.)

Re: time differences, in this last episode Sayid says to Desmond, "we've been on this ship for 3 days". Later on, Sun says "Sayid and Desmond have been gone for 3 days now". So apparently the time is not that far off, or as mentioned later by the doctor on the freighter, the ship is moving even though it doesnt feel like it, so maybe the ship is getting closer to the island causing the time difference to be eliminated.
Re: Jin being dead, I have to go back to check the exact date, but I could have sworn the date on Jins tombstone said 9/?/2004. If this is true, then chances are Jin is part of the cover-up (8 survived/6 rescued). Jin also said to Sun, I will do everything to protect you and the baby, no mention of "us" or "our family", or "we'll all get home". My guess is somethings going to happen where for Sun and the baby to survive, Jin is going to have to make a sacrifice and stay behind. And if he actually does die, I believe they still use him as 1 of the 2 passangers that survived the plane crash but died before the oceanic 6 were rescued.

it was to keep us thinking it was his baby being born. the whole conversation on the phone was between Jin and step-father to hurry to the hospital before the baby was born so he could get accepted to do business with the ambassador! it sux, but he is dead and yes, it was a flash back

AWWWW That episode was so sad! It's terrible that Jin's dead! I really feel that he is in fact dead, because Sun was genuinely grieving, and because of the fact that Jin said 'Wherever Sun goes, I go' - At least we know another of the Oceanic Six for CERTAIN - Sun!
I'm thinking that Jin's flashes were happening at the same time as Sun's. The man that steals the cab from Jin looks like the same man that Sun sees when she is in labor. Anyone else agree?
I dont think Jins dead. Its almost like they are unaware that the other one is alive. Possibly separated at some point and were told the other one is dead. Or with the effects of the island maybe returned to the real world to different times?? Jin said he was married but only for 2 months. possible???

Jin isn't dead!!! I take back what I had said before! The date on the tombstone was the date of the crash!!!! Therefore, he is still on the island, Sun got off but he had to stay for some unknown reason!!!!! Jin is still alive!!! How ya like them apples?!?! any response???

Bad guy gone good. Jin said to Sun, "You did it to that man" Jin has been reborn on the Island.

I was harcore about jin's death was staged just as the crash of 815 was. Butthen my wife made a good point. The reason 09 22 2004 was put tombstone was because who ever is responsable for the plane crash staging rather it be Ben or Widmore. anyhow who ever is responsable didn't want the world to know that more than 8 got off the island. So they put 09 22 2004 the day of crash on the tombstone so they would belive that Jin died in the plane crash. So Jin is dead. But not on that date on the tomb stone. But deep down i want to say Jin is still alive in the future. But i think the fact remains he is in fact dead in the future.
The reason we saw Jin's flash back was to mainly suprize us of the ending instored at the end. But it was also to show us how much being on the island has changed jin vs the Jin he use to be as we saw in that flash back.

You guys gotta realize in less than a season and a half about 32-40 episodes the show is over. I hope he is not dead but true to form when there is a flashback and a redemption scene (jins awareness of the affair) the person will get killed off.
