First off, this actually was an idea a friend of mine had, and after watching "Ji Yeon," i am starting to believe it, so here goes.
Remember, this is just a theory.
I think that, somehow, everyone on Flight 815 was duplicated. This is how Jin could be both alive and dead in "Ji Yeon." This would also explain how everyone's bodies were found in 815's wreckage.
Also, for those of you who remember that thing with the numbered rabbit, if you'll rememer, all of a sudden there were 2 rabbits. IF you'll think back, Ben commented on this in the last episode, when he asked if the rabbit Locke had killed had a number on it.
I think that this all has something to do with the Valenzetti Equation. In case you dont know what that is, it is supposed to be the determined exact time when the world will end. It has been implied that the DHARMA Initiative was trying to change the equation.
The following is an extrapolation. THis is my original idea.
Desmond once said that if the numbers weren't keyed in, the world would end. One time he didn't key in the numbers, and that was the day 815 crashed. I think that some of the passengers on 815 would be somehow involved in some way in saving the world. They obviously can't do that while they're stranded on the Island, so i think that their duplicates are waiting in the wings to be released into the world to fulfill the purposes of the originals. The preexisting connections between the 815 passengers seem to support the destiny theory. They always have been parts of the puzzle.
I said this was a theory of EVERYTHING, so i may as well move on to some of the other mysteries of Lost.
The Black Smoke: No clue. Really, no ideas whatsoever that haven't been shot down already.
The 4-Toed Statue Foot: This is kind of a long shot, but I have no other ideas. The Others are supposed to be the original inhabitants of the Island. Perhaps they belong to a separate subspecied of homnid, who only have 4 toes. I mean, have you ever seen an Other barefoot? The statue was probably built a long time ago, and got destroyed, perhaps by a natural disaster, perhaps by the DHARMA people, who knows?
Why did the DHARMA Initiative choose to conduct their experiments on this one specific Island?: Possibly destiny. Or, perhaps it has to do with the special properties of the Island. Wounds heal faster, cripples can walk, men have double their sperm cells...
I think that the Island speeds up cell growth and regeneration. Perhaps this is something that aids the cloning process. I wouldn't really know, though.
There are, of course, many other questions. For example, one that has been bugging me for awhile. If Ben came to the Island as a child, and has lived there almost his whole life, how can the people on the boat have a picture of him as an adult, off the Island? Does he have a secret way to get off the Island? Was he cloned too? Why is Mr.Whitmore financing the boat and its expedition? What does he want? Why was Locke so moved by Ben's revelation that Michael was the man on the boat? He let his mortal enely wander free through his camp. Why? Just for that? And why did Kate have Aaron anyway? Hopefully, the guys at Bad Robot won't be royal pains, and will tell us before our brains explode from the suspense!
