i noticed something which might be totally irrelevant but thought i would say anyway lol!

when ben is born it suggests the early 60s - when he comes to dharma it must be early to mid 70s but when locke is watching one of the orientation videos for dharma is says copyright 1980 so were the hatches an afterthought on dharmas behalf? and did the dharma folks that ben killed know about the hatches?

There is mention of the DeGroots being PhD candidates at the U of Michigan in 1970.

Maybe either they just didn't develop the movies until 1980 or they were just the most current movies that replaced older ones.

There is some video on the net that shows Hanso talking about DI and it shows them constructing the facilites, which may have taken years.

I like your idea of establishing a timeline. When was the purge. Was that the 16 years ago? Teh same year Rousseau arrived and the broadcast of the numbers started? Or no?

Speaking of Rosseau, I can't wait until they show her flashback. I think it will answer a lot of questions pertaining to the Dharma people and what the island was like before the purge. Should be good!

wow. this is a lot to take in!! so many good i deas, the whole dharma thing with the purge, rossusea, ben being born, stations being built! im quite confused!!

Ben and his Dad "Roger The workman" the guy that donated the (VW microibus to Hurley) both came to the Island a while after the Dharma Initiative started.
If you go back to that episode, date the music, sounded 70's I think.

the purge could well be around the time rousseau came to the island - perhaps the sickness is related to the gas they released? her crew were in the direct vicinity but if its in the atmosphere it could well have affected them but then there is the fact that richard and ben took their masks of fairly soon after and seemed fine.

Remember the military dude who got Sayid to torture his first victim. That was in the early 90's it was Dessert storm time. That same guy ended up in the swan hatch and found Desmound. If u watch that episode he says I was tired of people following my orders and I joined the Dharma initiative to Desmound. I think the purge happend in the early 90's if you follow these clues. Watch the end of season 2 and think about it. I could be wrong but it makes sence.

Yah it may have happened while he was there or right before he got there because everyone was dying....we still don't know (other than gas) how exactly they conducted the purge (unless I totally missed Ben explaining how the Purge happened) but in any case, the military guy that was with Desmond explained he was afraid to leave the swan station because of the supposed "virus" and would only leave with a gas mask. Maybe he didn't know they were killed?
