In watching this show, I've noticed (as I'm sure you all have) a lot of parallels between The Wizard of Oz and Lost so I thought I'd gather them all up and put them on here to see if we could figure anything out.

"Henry Gale" is the name Ben gave himself when captured by Rosseau which is the same name as Dorothy's uncle in Oz.

The real Henry Gale that was found had crashed on the island in a hot air balloon while attempting to cross the Pacific Ocean. As we all know, the Wizard had traveled to the land of Oz in a hot air balloon as well.

In the episode Lockdown, Locke is on the floor with the blast door crushing him. When the blast door opens, "Henry Gale" runs to him and Locke says, "You came back." Ben/"Henry" says "Well of course I did. What did you think, I was going to leave you here?" In the Wizard of Oz movie there a scene with Dorothy locked in the Witch's tower when the Tin Man busts through the door and says the exact same thing.

Another reference is the Other, Tom, who was called "Zeke" by Sawyer. In the Wizard of Oz, Zeke was one of Henry Gale's farmhands.

Both stories (Lost and Oz) have a unseen, near-omnipotent character behind the scenes calling all the shots, which of course would be Jacob in Lost.

In "Flashes Before Your Eyes", during Desmond's flashback, a man in red shows is crushed by a falling scaffolding and his legs are sticking out from the wreck, similar to when the Wicked Witch of the East was crushed on Dorothy's house. Along with this, in the first episode of Lost, Kate takes a pair of red boots off the feet of a dead passenger pinned under the plane's wreckage.

And of course as we all remember, Locke uses the reference "the man behind the curtain" when he suspects Ben controlling all the Others through deception.

In the novel "The Number of the Beast" by Robert Heinlein, Glinda the Good Witch reminds two pregnant women that nobody gives birth in Oz.

In the first episode of Lost, Charlie volunteers to go with Kate and Jack on their quest of find the front section by saying "Every journey needs a coward" which could be a refernce to the cowardly lion.

Sorry so long! If anyone can think of anymore, please add! :)

Dude, good observation. I knew I was thinking in the back of my mind that the red sneakers dude with his feet sticking out reminded me of somthing from my childhood.Hilarious!! U forgot about the White Rabbit reference to Alice in Wonderland, Oh yeah and that crazy cat from Patchy's house LOL, thats enough of that.

If I remember right, they tell Dorothy she always had the power to get home any time she wanted.

I thought of another one....its been shown in the show that Charlie has a thing for poppy seeds which is the same plant Dorothy and her crew were running through when they passed out. Not sure if its of any importance, just another similarity.

According to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, in the NOVEL (not the movie) the wicked witch has an eyepatch.

Anyone know if this is true?

1)You where correct in thinking that a man was wearing red shoes that where sticking out from under some debree that fell on him. In episode"Flash before your eyes" This event takes place. Here is the link and picture.

Yes Christian was wearing White shoes in episode "White Rabit" Also they are identical to the shoes that where hanging from the lim in Episode"Pilot part 1"
Here's the offical link to Lostapidia that shows this

Since Iv menatione dthe white shoes. A little about how i see a connection with them.

Now that we have seen Christian in Jacob's house and as soon as Hurly gets a close look Jacob sudly appears and scares him away. Seems Jacob has been guiding our passangers. The white shoe shownin the tree and are seen on Christian kinda symbolize this was the right path for Jack to take that lead to the passangers in episode "Pilot part one". Jack's father wearing identacal shoes in episode White rabit shows Jack to the caves with shelter and water for his people. Now the same shoes are showen again on Christian in Jacob's house which Hurly then begins to see the house every turn he makes symbolyzing this was the correct path to take. Which eventualy lead up to Hurly finding Locke a known tracker who could show him back to the path he was supose to go on.

I love all the Wizard of Oz references! I think it's fantastic! The writers cram so many hidden things into the show in so many different ways and do it so well! I'd say there are more to come, more messages are being hidden than ever in the last season and into this season!
