In watching this show, I've noticed (as I'm sure you all have) a lot of parallels between The Wizard of Oz and Lost so I thought I'd gather them all up and put them on here to see if we could figure anything out.
"Henry Gale" is the name Ben gave himself when captured by Rosseau which is the same name as Dorothy's uncle in Oz.
The real Henry Gale that was found had crashed on the island in a hot air balloon while attempting to cross the Pacific Ocean. As we all know, the Wizard had traveled to the land of Oz in a hot air balloon as well.
In the episode Lockdown, Locke is on the floor with the blast door crushing him. When the blast door opens, "Henry Gale" runs to him and Locke says, "You came back." Ben/"Henry" says "Well of course I did. What did you think, I was going to leave you here?" In the Wizard of Oz movie there a scene with Dorothy locked in the Witch's tower when the Tin Man busts through the door and says the exact same thing.
Another reference is the Other, Tom, who was called "Zeke" by Sawyer. In the Wizard of Oz, Zeke was one of Henry Gale's farmhands.
Both stories (Lost and Oz) have a unseen, near-omnipotent character behind the scenes calling all the shots, which of course would be Jacob in Lost.
In "Flashes Before Your Eyes", during Desmond's flashback, a man in red shows is crushed by a falling scaffolding and his legs are sticking out from the wreck, similar to when the Wicked Witch of the East was crushed on Dorothy's house. Along with this, in the first episode of Lost, Kate takes a pair of red boots off the feet of a dead passenger pinned under the plane's wreckage.
And of course as we all remember, Locke uses the reference "the man behind the curtain" when he suspects Ben controlling all the Others through deception.
In the novel "The Number of the Beast" by Robert Heinlein, Glinda the Good Witch reminds two pregnant women that nobody gives birth in Oz.
In the first episode of Lost, Charlie volunteers to go with Kate and Jack on their quest of find the front section by saying "Every journey needs a coward" which could be a refernce to the cowardly lion.
Sorry so long! If anyone can think of anymore, please add! :)
