It was hinted in season 3 premiere. When Kate is about to shower and she tells him to go away but he says "Sorry but you're not really my type." I always thought he was gay after that. haha.

Yea, this is how I understood it too. We saw him alive in this epi cuz Michael was telling the story of how he made it back to the States and then onto the freighter.....all that happened before he died.

I agree... but without an exact timeline it's hard to say for sure.

Perhaps you are right..

But they showed Michale with Xmas decorations, etc, so it was only a few days or weeks ago in island time when Tom visited him. I'll have to think about that more and watch it again. Lostpedia says he is dead, i just checked.

Right cuz he's def. back on the island around the time the freighter is closing in. Just seems forever ago b/c that episode WAS forever ago to us!

yes michaels been gone since season 2 finale.n this flashback picks up shortly thereafter i would guess.. so tom has plenty of time to find michael, show off his gayness, and get back to the island in plenty of time for sawyer to off his ass in season 3 finale

Please!! In America people put there XMas decorations up the day after Thanksgiving! haha:D So that doesnt help us with the timeline at all!

I brought this up in another thread, but didn't someone on the freighter say that they had left Fiji in November? This would place Michael's meeting with Tom in Manhattan well before when Tom was killed by Sawyer on the island. In that case, the timeline would go something like this:

1. Michael leaves the island with Walt on Ben's boat
2. Michael meets up with Tom in Manhattan
3. Michael gets on the freighter
4. Tom returns to the island
5. Tom is killed by Sawyer

Toms dead....Naomi parachuted to the island before Tom died and the only way she couldve was if the freightor had left port....so Michael was on the boat then while Tom was alive and well then Sawyer shot him days later.

Not only that, but by the time Sawyer shot Tom, Locke had already blown up the submarine, and Benjamin's gang no longer had a way off the island. (Assuming, of course, that Ben doesn't have another method, but that hasn't been hinted at in the show yet, at any rate.)

Let's check the timeline for these events. Michael leaves on day 67. Tom is killed on day 92. That's 25 days. Could recruitment of Michael have happened in the period of less than one month?

:confused: We are suppose to take down our xmas decorations? :eek: ut ruh! lol. But, seriously.... I agree this takes place prior to Sawyer taking Tom out. What I didn't understand was why Michael cannot die. Does that mean the 6 cannot as well? We know Jack tried....but that failed...hmmmm.

Yes, I think they went out of their way tonight to point out that dead is not necessarily "dead" if the island doesn't want you dead... I don't think the Tom timeline is as important as the emphasis on death being relative. We see Libby... and remember, we've seen Jack's dad a couple of times and we saw Ben's dead mom... I think The Shining reference has some significance there, too... if you have read it, Jack kind of lives in two worlds and dead is relative there.

sawyer shot tom after naomi had already arrived on the island and when michael saw tom the freighter hadnt even left port yet...without a doubt it all happened before and tom is deadzo...poor lonely antonio

I think this was a flashback that happened after michael left the island but before the end of last season because we saw tom get shot at the beach so i think he got sent to manhattan by ben because ben knew that widmore was coming and he needed someone on that boat and michael was off the island. I knew he was gay when he had that conversation with Kate when she was changing .

Tom must have been doing a lot of traveling, but I think he recruited Michael and then returned to the island before he was shot on the beach. Remember that Tom was shot on the beach a few days after Naomi parachuted in from one of the freighter's choppers and on the same day Jack called the freighter for rescue. He recruited Michael at least several days before the freighter left its port in Fiji and it probably took several days to a week for the freight to get to its position. Now, I think the last time we saw island Tom was when Jack and Juliette fled after the submarine exploded. So was there enough time for Tom to travel to Manhattan, recruit Michael, "indulge", and return before Ben's plan to kidnap the pregnant women was hatched and Tom ended up dead as a result? Any other Tom sightings post the sub explosion?

i suspected tom was gay from the beginning.....when he laughed at kate in the locker room cuz she thought that he was looking at her....he said "don't worry kate....ur not my type"!!....knew it!!!

I could be wrong but, I remember thinking tom wasn't in much action before he was shot. He seemed to leave and then reappear only briefly before he was shot. maybe even the same episode.

He is dead. This happened after Michael got off the island but before he was shot and killed. Tom was even creepier in this episode than he was previously (and I thought he was pretty creepy then).

to get it. It is given in s04e08 anyway that Michael was barely home when Tom caught up with him. I believe the writers said it was only two weeks from
when Michael left the island to the point where he got on the freighter.

Home in record time! Hangin around, Ben spying on you. learning the weaknesses and then using it to his advantage. Ghost Libby isn't like Ghost Walt or Christian Sheppard or Ghost Charlie. She's a guilt ghost. And I think the island let's you die, it's a Ben mind game.
