I wonder why Hurley fixed his car and that is the car they show him driving. His mom still had that car?
Does anyone else feel that they show things from further back then you would think? Like the music, cars and so on? Michaels car old- music Momma Cass? Game show old. Michaels t.v. old.

Nahh it's just the car flash back before when they return from the island they will have the same cars but have a make over courtsey of Pimp my ride :-) Kinda makes you wanna be in a plane crash and survive.

Well, you know how Desmond went back to 1996. I don't know anyone who has a t.v. like Michaels that could have cable hooked up to it to watch an old game show.

I remember he fixed that car before the crash, and i don't think they wanted you to think it was a flashback either, unless they planned to reveal it as a flash-forward half-way towards the first scene, witch would be stupid. If they did try to trick you like that it would be like in "Ji Yeon" with Jin's Flash-Back.

Ya, Hurley was helping his Dad fix that car when his Dad took off and left them. So when Hurley got back he must have got it running.

The music definitely sets the stage for the decade being shown, especially if someone was around back when Momma Cass was ALIVE. Does anyone think there could be more significance to the song than that. For instance, Michael is in the car, trying to commit suicide. The song playing is "I'ts getting BETTER every day". Is this irony, or does it represent the fact that Michael's guilt represents growth or progress towards what he is meant to do, his work on the island?

Hey, what can you say? The island digs Mama Cass! You'd think that when Michael got in his ride, he would have changed the channel, not increase the volume!

As for the car, it had significant daddy issue symbolism for Hurley. It was a junker that he and his dad were to fix up and then daddy split. Hurley never dumped the car, and when he got the lottery cash, he brought it back to mint condition. Just another daddy issue for the show. When Hurley's dad appeared again, because Hurley cashed in, Hurley showed him the car to establish that he did it without daddy's help.

It reminded me of the records Des played in the Hatch.

To me, the "vintage" tunes give those scenes a sense of history...like the situation has been that way a long time.

Is Hurley only sane on the island?

Locke....Rose....etc....were "fixed" once on the island. Hurley was able to overcome his skitzo problems (supposedly with the island's assistance).

Once he was off the island and got into the police chase in the season 4 opener, it seems he was all crazy again or whatever
