Ok so we know that Ben leaves somehow...scary. So we can assume that perhaps since Desmond wasnt on the plane, he left the island and they didnt consider him an O6. So who knows, maybe Juliet made it off too. I would like to think this happens... (:

I think he is going to live. He was one of the first characters introduced, and the connection between him and Penny and Widmore is very significant. Also, you are right, he was never on the flight log of Oceanic 815.

I think the only way Ben would be off the island is by force. If he was removed from the island, it must be a far different place. Ben may not have as strong as a connection as Locke or Richard (whom I believe to be the last person born on the island besides Aaron), but he absolutely does not want to leave. If Alex, Danielle (sp), and Juliet are dead, he might leave as well. Perhaps Widmore got his island only to ruin it or rid it of its "powers".

Desmond gets my vote for the "happy ending" character. By my reckoning, he's killed absolutely no one (a much-justified harpooning of Patchy is not a negative here, nor the head-bashing on Inman, who I don't believe to be dead), he likes a good bottle of monastic wine or uber-expensive scotch, and his heart's in the right place, saving Charlie multiple times. My girlfriend can't stop gushing about the Valentine's Day episode.

I believe Ben can still come and go as he pleases, perhaps via a second submarine. Libby's boat is still roughly intact as well, minus some bullet damage. I also believe he knows the future, and would love to see him and Desmond have a conversation for once...
