The Black Smoke?

I am waiting for the Black Smoke to help protect the island. Jacob, the black smoke and the island are the same being.

I think that they are three different things working together to protect the island...

I think the black smoke was created by Dharma to scare their employees and keep control of them, but it got out of control and now can think on its own. Its like a security system.

do you think that is why Dharma built the electic fence thing...

The rhino picture you posted reminds me of the black smoke. I think a rhino is one of the deadliest animals in Africa. It's very aggressive, territorial, unpredictable, and quick to anger. Black smoke=black rhino.

Either the creature they created got out of control and so they built the fence for protection, or they built the fence with the creature to keep everyone inside so they could keep up with all the people. If anyone walked outside the fence the monster would chase them back in. Also remember when the fence was activated it kept people from crossing, like the hostiles. Oh another idea just popped into my head, maybe the creature was created to kill the hostiles. Either way I think it was created by Dharma, not just some freak of nature.

Agreed. I think Jacob may control the smoke monster, but I don't think they are the same things.

don't think anyone or thing controls the other, they all work independently from and with each....

i think that jacob was on the black rock and so were the hostiles. they must have gotten there a long time ago and not just richard but all of the hostiles don't age intill there job is done on the island. jacob feared that the island was in danger so he created the black smoke to protect it. the hostiles aren'y affected by it and neither is ben. the only time we have seen a other be attacked by the monster and she was with kate.
