.. ok so i was watching the special before the new episode (one with subtitles) and it said at the end "and through the looking glass, back at jack's apartment" and then it showed him lookin like a bum and everything in his apartment
it then hit me that he was a bum before he was on the island as well. this makes me wonder if the island is the "Looking Glass" and when people come on the island they are the exact opposite of before the island :P
here are some examples : Sun and Jin could not get a baby off island/ get one on island
Locke is handicapped/ on island he is fine
Jack is a hopeless bum/ On island he is leader of everyone
Rose has cancer/ on island it is cured
Hurley is unluck with numbers/ on island he is normal
Charley is druggy rocker/ charlie becomes clean
it also occured to me that when Claire was having "problems' she was told take a flight on Oceanic 815 - he may have known that it was crash and everyone on the island would be "healed"
idk this is just an idea

I think this whole thing the whole LOST show is revolved around getting that "2nd chance" in life there are no second chances, and well, in this show it sort of teaches you that you don't have to wait for that second chance. You can make your life what ever you want it to be, u feel me? Obviously everyone wants to be the most "likable person", the "leader" of every group, the "rockstar", the "one with all the money", the "hunter", the "badass", the "good parent", the "loyal wife". I'm sure u guys can spot similarities to these characters in LOST, they weren't like this on accident you know, its sublyminal education. Somthing we can all relate to, thats why there is such a huge (no offence) age range of those of us on this forum and who watch the show. It's LIFE It's LOST!!!!!!!1

I'm glad someone agrees with me, I mean, if you think about it really hard, almost every show is just about life. Same as lost, its just way more entertaining. If just normal life was entertaining, I'd be outside right now watching squirrles run around in circles, but no I've got LOST!

This got me thinking ,end of season 3 when Cindy, the kids, and all the random others were staring at Jack in the cage,Jack screamed something like what are you doing here to Cindy ,when he realized she was the same flight attendent on 815. she said we are here to watch. Makes you wonder if they are watching to see if these people will change, step up be different here than in their regular lives, like an elaborate social experiment? Why are they watching ?

Couldnt agree more Mera, my theory is that the island is about 'mirror images' and 'second chances'.As you mentioned everyone is different on the island most evidently Jack,Locke,Charlie etc....

Something i thought which could also be completely wrong is that there is a connection with FATHERS -Bens killing his father,Jacks/Claires father being dead on the island,Lockes father being killed on the island,Michael being a father to Walt,Rousseau's daughter (Alex's) father is dead,Shannons father dying in the car crash,Kate killing her step-father,Even Hurleys father was absent for most of his life and Aarons father isnt in his life. Yet on the island the MOTHERS are dying..Although claire delivered her baby safely she previously hadnt wanted to be a mother and Sun hadnt been able to concieve off the island,Another mirror image perhaps..

I think there is also a battle within each character, mirrored by the battle between the group and the others, good and the bad..

Just a theory:)

Also, just to back the whole second chance/mirror image theory here are a few more examples
Polar Bears instead of Grizzly Bears
Black Rock (ship) on land instead of in water
(this is kinda out there :P) "hatches" blowing up and instead of killing said Desmond it gives him powers :P i know thats kinda out there lol
Claire did not want baby - recieved one
Sun wanted baby - she may lose hers along with her life
Charlie was a more or less selfish, famous druggy/ clean life who would give his life for everyone else (Claire and Aaron)
this would also explain why Ben wants to keep the Looking Glass Station afloat because that is the only true way back to the mainland (Desmond said "This island is like a bloody snowglobe) and maybe the people that decided to stay would be forever trapped there and the Oceanic Six are the only ones who took a chance and made it off (maybe before Naomi's bad friends sink it :P) but ,hey, like i said earlier im just throwing this out there!

yep always felt the second chance or the chance to redeem yourself in some way was there. goes with the dark and light thing again.

there are so many themes within this show, i get lost (omg - that is such a bad pun - i am ashamed of myself lol!)

I still can't let go. I'm one of those stubborn afterlife theorists, but there are alot of great points out there. I've always believed in the second chance and redemption angle, but still feel that it ties into moving on beyond this world. Although whats up with the supposed fake pilot in the wreckage? I wonder if we are all die hard fans because we are all longing for a second chance. I think I need a vacation, but to a normal polynesian island with a beach and mai tai

Ya, I believe that it has alot to do with second chances. Some of the surviors needed that in life,as you guys have mentioned, but what about the ones that died on the plane.did they already make peace with everything in their life or better put,if it costs the rest of the people on board to go on to the man upstairs to change the surviors lives and to give them that second chance they must be very special in the whole scheme of life.

I think those who have died have had their second chance and made their peace before their deaths. Charlie, Ecko,Shannon, Boone, Libby. Thats's why i would not call those who left the island- the O6 survivors. they are escapers, they only escaped death, but left with maybe an even more miserable life and that's why they want to get back. They new they LOST their chance for any hope of a peaceful death. You gotta go down fighting, but at somepoint you have to accept your fate and make peace with it. They know they should have died too. wheww!
