When the "Attorney" for Oceanic goes to visit Hurley in the institution.. I noticed the table they sit down at has a chess game going on it... it reminded me of the whole Walt/Locke conversation from Season 1(2?)... about there being light/dark sides to things. Since the attorney & Hurley seem to me to be on opposite sides of the game... I wonder if Walt & Locke will be on opposite sides of something?
Oh and btw...Remember how Locke asked if Walt wanted to know a secret? Any thoughts on what that secret is?

I dunno but I do know that Ben and Jack and also Ben and Locke (I think) play chess together and have a similar conversation. Thats when Locke says he's the "man behind the curtain".

I think that the whole chess thing may symbolize the trickiness to the whole LOST puzzle. There are Light and Dark sides to things, I am just concerned as to who or what is on which side. Right now with the 815's split up and the others turned friendly, at least those that are with the 815's. And now this new group We'll call them the freighters, and there is this conspiracy that there are other 815's somwhere else on the island so lets set out pieces up real fast.
1. Locke's team
2. Jack's team
3. Others
4. Freighters
5. Other 815's (Unknown)
Seems like we have 5 sides here. As locke would say, this could be more difficult than we thought!!;)

they also play backgammon in season 1 - i dont know anything about backgammon but doesnt it have white and black pieces? in fact doesnt hurley claim to have been some kind of backgammon champ?
the light and dark thing is definitely a strong theme throughout.

Where did you get the idea that there are other Lostees somewhere on the island? We know that the rest of the Others are at the Temple but thats the only other group we know of, besides the Freighters.
Maybe the Temple is where the 4-toed statue is?

I agree witht hepossiblity of the temple being near the 4 toed statue.
The island appears to have a deep seeded history stretching back centuries. For a statue like that... seems ancient to me.
And 4 toes... WOW!! GOnna be awesome to find out its relevance.

I started a similar thread earlier about the chess symbolism (Jacks Chess Game). i think it might play a roll, small, but a roll nonetheless. It’s more than likely just a subtle thing that we can pick up on. Although, who knows. But i dig it.
As far as colors go, i can't at the moment watch any previous episodes, but what color was locke playing with when they he and walt were playing backgammon. And what color was jack while playing ben in the minisode, and locke playing ben, while trying to convince him to give up the sub? Maybe that will lead us in some direction?
If locke and a different color then jack when each played against ben, then i would be inclined to believe the chess colors symbolize allegiance.
