What happened to the extras on the island!!!

So maybe im just blind and have missed when all of the extras on the island just disappeared. But what really happened to all of them. There were tons of extra people that had no important role in the film, except to help bury people and stand around. Whats up with that. People cant just disappear.

Some were helping with the SOS, then quit. Most were scattered on the beach in little groups. I guess that there is a lot of room to move around out there.

I hope they're still on the island and the Oceanic 6 will return to rescue them. I get the feeling that it's going to be very difficult to return.
