I disagree slightly with this statement. Remember when Ben and Juliet are at the beach after one of the mothers dies on the operating table, and Juliet says she just can't do it - she can't succeed. Ben tells her she must succeed. Then Juliet says "I believe it happens at conception."

Well, great. Just because she thinks the "illness" happens at conception doesn't mean it does. There could be another environmental factor affecting mothers on the island. For instance, perhaps since Sun is living primarily on the beach (almost always near the ocean), she might be OK - perhaps whatever is killing the mothers is found farther inland.

In short, even though Sun conceived on the island, I don't think she's going to die like the other mothers...at least not necessarily. There's still a glimmer of hope.
