I would like to bring up the idea about the island being the home, or part of, an ancient advanced civilization.

1. The 4 toe statue. This would indicate a prosperous civilization, in the past at some point. It was eroded, or there was an attempt to destroy it, toppling over of the major portion... Or maybe it was just being made and they never finished. And 4 toes... that has to be something SPECIAL!

2. The security system smoky monster thingy. Rousseau called it the islands security system. The Dharma barracks had a shield around them that protected them from hostiles and the smoky didn't get through either. This to me indicated Dharma did not make the smoky. It is somehow connect to the island itself, not Dharma. Juliet did not seem to know about it when her and Kate where being chased.

3. The temple. Temples are worshiping places. Usually this invokes an image of the past, possibly ancient.

Just an idea. :) I say advanced because you need to be advanced to create a smoky thing, that is semi-transparent, and appears to simulate mechanical noises, or is mechanical and has holographic imaging to cloak its true appearance...

Juliette knew did mention that Blacky didn't like the fence, so she knew enough about it.

Yeah Sun, Jin, and sayid saw it. I couldn't tell you why they didn't tell but so much was going on that they probably forgot. I think sayid'd be the one to tell and jack would be like, Why didn't you tell me? And sayid'd be like, I didn't think it was important, and ther would be another huge fight.

I have no doubt that things on the island sugest an ancient civilization once lived here and perhaps it's decendedins carry on the long history of it's people.

1.) The four toe statue. I belive this might be some type of sea God/Goddess. Alot of times many civelizations would put a God or Goddess of the sea by the shore lines of their city or country to insure it's people a safe voiage out to sea and back. Perhaps at one time this was it's cause. perhaps there is a passage hidden unde rit that is a key to something on the island. As to why it has four toes? Alot of sculptures in the early Greek/Roman hertage would create their statues with only four toes on each foot. Which would create and even and narrower point to a foot from a distance. Where if it had five it would be uneven and give the foot a gasley appearance at a distance. It was for perfection of their art. The statue may very well be what was the ruler of the land. Alot of rulers such as pharohs and Empouers where considered Gods. So people would build statues in their houner.

2.) SMokey-Anything is possable with this chr. But he may very well be an enity that was on this island long before anyone even the Hostiles came to the island. It could be a creature that existed long ago and is the last of it's kind. Maybe it is what would domnate the world had man not come along and changed the time line. Man for centries had been said to have been put on this world by alian prsents. Such as in the game Chrono Trigger. Man was spawned from a meterite that was actualy a powerful alian with the ability to create life and change time. Nonesnese? Maybe. But it's still intresting. But Smokey is deafantly securing something on the island. The question is what and what for?

3. The temple could be the power source of Smokey. Like you said a place of worship. Man has always had a place to worship an all powerful enity. Perhaps the habitants of this island consider Smokey a powerful God being that has been on this island long before them. How and why? That is up to LOST to tell us. In the comic world of Marvel the mighty mutant APocalypse needed a temple to rejuvnat ehis ifanant agless body of power. He wa simortal never aged . But was born as a child. Even gre wto an adult. But once he discoverd his powers. He was able to obtain many ways of teh ancients that keept him imortal thre wout the centries of Earth. Perhaps this temple is where Richard and thoese like him hav eto go to keep imortal or ageless in his case.

Wow, great angle on the smoke creature possibly being a perceived ancient God. And the temple a place of rejuvenation, that would explain the ageless Richard, fountain of youth idea. Great reply! So Richard is Apocalypse, with his 4 horseman, Archangel by his side, ready to battle the X-Men Losties!? LOL, j/k.

Yeap. That about sums it up. It's a plan created by Apocalypse :-)
