I've been thinking about this the past couple days. In the first episode of season 4 we saw that Hurley stumbles across Jacob's cabin and sitting in the chair is none other than Christian Shephard, Jack's dad. That got me to thinking that he is affiliated and/or connected to a lot of people on the island (Jack, Claire, Sawyer, and Ana Lucia immediatly come to mind). That got me to thinking about the "Oceanic 6" and his connection with them. So far, of the people we know to be part of the six, which we assume are the survivors, only Jack knows Christian. The other 5 seemingly don't, ie Hurley and Kate. True, Hurley did see him in the cabin but it was briefly and he didn't know who he was.
And then there is also his name, Christian Shephard. I mean, his name might as well be Jesus because Jesus is the shepherd of men, and Christian is obvious.
And then the empty casket, again symbolic of Jesus. We know he dies in Australia, then his casket is found in a cave empty, mirroring Jesus' resurection where Mary and Mary visit the tomb of Jesus only to find it empty, much like Jack. The cave later provided sanctuary for the survivors.
It just seems to me as though the show has many religious overtones and the Christian Shephard has "silently" played a major part in the show and I think his role is only going to be stronger in Season 4. I'm sure there have been other discusions on the boards about this but I was just wondering what everyone else thought and what you think his impact will be in season 4 because I'm betting it'll be big.
