Why did Ben say "you know I cant do that" when confronting Whitmore in the bedroom and Whitmore asked Ben if he was there to kill him?
And Ben and Sayeed are in the future when they are at funeral?
But Ben isnt one of the Oceanic Six who survive, is he.
Just thinking out loud as show just over....

OK. I have a crazy theory on Lost. I know that the writers are "out there" kinda guys (not in a bad way. So, I was think while watching tonight's "Sneak Preview" episode. I had a lightning bolt fire in my brain. The writers are HUGE on foreshadowing. Toward the start of the show, John, Hurley, and Sawyer are playing the game Risk. Then I kept noticing all of these references to the possesion of land, hiring "armies", breaking rules, etc. Also, from previous episodes we know that Widemore is a quadrillionaire, and this season we learned that Ben has money. So, here's my theory: Maybe this whole show is about two very wealthy men playing a real life game of Risk.

Oooooh, like that movie The Game with Michael Douglas. If you haven't seen it, check it out, it's not new.
I suppose this would also explain why Ben said something about "changing the rules" a few times in this episode...

The Question about Ben Being GOD. I don't think it's true God don't kill I know we have seen Ben Kill The person we think is his father but what if Whitmore and Ben's Mom hooked up in the pat and Ben Is Whitmores son. He did say I know Who You Are Boy. There are another brother and sister.

your, right. God came to give Life and to give it more abundantly. satan came to kill, steal, and destroy.
BTW, the "huge foreshadowing" you mentioned, is a flashforward. CW said "i know what you are and who you are BOY! As if to say stay out of my way cause i'm a man"

I like your theory, that would also explain the reason why Ben's "dad" does not have such a connection to him when they are on the Island, and why Ben does not care that he killed him. He seems to value family.
I like that theory that Ben is whitmore's son, but then I don't think he would kill his own half sister? (penny)

I would go so far as to say that Whitmore would represent God, Ben would be represented by the Devil, and Jacob is some intermediary.
Ben stole from Witmore like Satan stole from God.
Also:
Ben worked under Witmore like Satan 'worked' for God.

Wow! That would actually be a pretty cool explanation!! Might be one of the best ending possibilities I've heard so far....and creative! :)
The only thing though is there are way too many other sub-plots going on....I don't think it could be that black and white of an explanation...but who knows right! That's what I love about these threads...listening to other people's theories and ideas and realising that I'm not the only one who has no idea what the hell is going on! :p

I think this "idea" is on the right track, but you guys are making the mistake of taking the official view on the devil.
I'm gonna guess it has a bit more to do with the Mark Twain sympathetic view of the Devil, and believe Sawyer might just agree.
Ben is beyond any shadow of a doubt the Devil.
Whitmore is either God....or....perhaps they've actually broken up God into his parts, Whitmore being the father...he created the Dharma project perhaps. The "world" is the island....Ben Revolted and took over the island for a time. God Has after all destroyed his creation in the past, and might do so again, perhaps that is the mission of Whitmore's instruments the hired soldiers, they are his agents in desireing to bring apocolypse in order to start over.
Jacob, could be the Holy Spirit, and in a way the original higher form of God.......In this way god is broken up trinity fashion, and if there is a savior character, I think it Would be Locke....in this way Jacob, Locke and Whitmore are connected.
Locke is closer to Jesus, and like Jesus he had to wander in the wilderness, be tempted by the Devil, and ultimately may question the "father"...if so ultimately he iwll have to be sacrificed for the others to escape....which makes sense as we have no seen him in any future additions.
Ben is constantly jealous of Locke. "I used to Dream", "The Island used to talk to me" meaning the Holy Spirit....This mirror's Lucifers jealousy of Jesus, and more generally man, as he was the prior chosen by God....and feels rejected. He even tries to kill Locke but realizes it is pointless, if Locke is now Chosen...there is nothing he can do about it.....the "My time is over John, it's yours now"...or The World..the island and the world being interchangable. The island represents our small little rock in the Universe.
We're all trapped on this little island we call Earth, many people naturally seek to escape, and or meaning to this exitsance. We have various religious views on this wether it's that this is a test and ultimately we'll go to heaven or hell, or perhaps it's reincarnation and ultimately we seek to return to a void.....or whatever. The World they're trying to get back to in this light could be the afterlife...or the eternal life.
Now the show doesn't neatly fit with this because it does show them living lives beyond the Island, that seem to have awhole new series of tests, and issues......
But this shows draws from many different mythologies, theories and philosophies. I do not beleive one little theological or philosophical equation will completely encompass this story. But Ben is unquestionably the Devil in my mind.....he is the manipulator, he is at war with the creator, and he is in the Mark Twain sense of the Devil, a tragic character. One can definately be sympathetic to him, even if you still dislike him all the same.
The black smoke creature to me might very well be the "angel of death".....
As to the prior comment that God doesn't kill? Are you serious? Perhaps we read different Bibles...the one I read God kills a lot, and asks his people to kill a lot....that's not passing judgement, perhaps God does know best......but God gives that order regularly especially in the Old Testiment. God gives and takes life, in the eternal sense that is neither good or evil in itself as the mortal time we spend is meaningless compared to eternity, In many ways the "Dharma experiment" is one way to look at this world....God's experiement with man.
One last thought, in this theory, perhaps Michael is a fallen Angel, which is why he can not be killed, and also why he hasn't had the same opportunity for "redemption" as the other "mortals". Rather he is a tool in the battle between God and the Devil.
I don't know though I'm not comfortable with Whitmore as God ultimately perhaps he's just one of the Angels...one whose task it is to fight Lucifer.
Angels can be scary after all....
Oh and last thought whoever conected Jack to Moses......brilliant.

As Nick Fury posted God does kill in the O.T. and he does favor those who have done some awful things. Wasn't it King David who had a woman's husband sent off to be killed in war, because David desired her for his own? Like Ben sending Goodwin off to be in danger of getting killed when he knew Juliet was involved with him. Yet, David found favor with God.
In doing research to find that reference in the O.T. I came across the Rules of Warfare. I think its a must read for all Lost Fans because it parallels what's happening now on the island. It's great reading and may be close to The Rules Ben talked about.
For those interested see Deuteronomy Chapters 19 and 20.
Thanks for the interesting ideas begun on this post.
