OK. I have a crazy theory regarding the storyline on Lost, but given that this show follows no rules, I feel good about my "craziness". I know that the writers are "out there" kinda guys (not in a bad way). While I watch the show every week, I am constantly--head reeling--trying to put the pieces together. I also remeber and interveiw with the actor who plays Sawyer before this season began. He said if viewers pay attention to the tiniest of details, they can figure it all out. So, I was thinking while watching tonight's "Sneak Preview" episode. I had a lightning bolt fire off in my brain. The writers are HUGE on foreshadowing. Toward the start of the show, John, Hurley, and Sawyer are playing the game Risk. If anyone is familiar with that game, this may strike a chord with you. I kept noticing all of these references to the possesion of land, the "hiring of armies", breaking rules, wars, etc. (which in ways has been a constant from the very start--protecting the land/it belongs to us kinda stuff). Also, from previous episodes we know that Widemore is a quadrillionaire, and this season we learned that Ben has money. So, here's my theory: Maybe this whole show is about two very wealthy men playing a real life game of Risk. What do you think??:D

This is a very cool theory, seeing as Ben even said that Widmore, "Broke the Rules". Very cool I hadn't even noticed this.

You know, My friend and I were discussig this very thing during the show....and we caught that too! Hurley even says something like "I can't believe you gave him Australia...that's the key to the whole game" ...which I think is ACTUALLY The Island!
Couldn't agree more about Ben and Charles Widmore...they are probably both Multi-Millionaires who are playing a real life game of RISK (Or WAR as it's known in the UK) but there were probably some ground rules set before they began begnning with...One cannot kill the other (Which is why Ben says to Charles "You know I can't kill you") and the other is ....One cannot hurt the other's family...which is the Rule that Widmore's guys broke.
The only reason these two would have rules is....if they are playing some sort of GAME!!! Right?

I sure hope it's not just all a game between the two. That would make both evil to the core, letting people die and otherwise suffer. While it was humorous in view of where they are and what's going on, to see Sawyer and Hurley playing Risk, I prefer to believe there's a much huger thing going on with ultimate prices to pay.

I'm just going back to the risk theory that I posted because last week. Turnip Queen replied that she noticed a "Battle Royale" poster in the back drop from the show 2 Thursdays ago when the boys were playing Risk. So this past Thursday, I was looking for more battle/war type references. The only thing that caught my eye is the name of the medical group where Jack works (present day). It's name is St. Sebastian. So for some reason I decided to google this saint to see what is the patron saint of, and sure enough, among othet things, St. Sebastian is the patron saint of soldiers. I just thought that's another interesting clue. However, the whole "we're all dead" business from this past episode, serves, I believe, to throw us off again...

Your theory fits exactly with mine. I believe it all to be a social experiment, perpetrated by some sick and twisted people. I mentioned Widmore and Paik as possibilities. Check out my post A Social Experiment.
