So, as you all know, the casimir effect was mentioned in a training video. Also, it's widely known that electromagnetism exists on the island. (before jj mcabraham gets off on red giants collapsing to form wormholes, hear me out)
The casimir effect theoretically can be used to create wormholes through exotic matter. Now, here's where it ties into the island. The monster. We know that the monster can manifest itself in many different ways (yemi, etc). Since no one on earth has ever seen a wormhole, we don't actually know what they look like. If Dharma created particles held together by the casimir effect and somehow programmed with AI, they could create a localized wormhole that could bring in whatever it wanted to manifest itself as. In the case of the spider that bit Nikki, it simply 'brought in' a spider. Quite frankly, this is a fiction show and we really don't know how wormholes manifest themselves.
The island itself could be floating within some sort of rift in space-time that allows for electro-magnetic anomalies.
