Saying to Ben, “Everything you have, you took from me”
The way the conversation went, it sounded very much like Ben worked for Widmore at some time and then betrayed him and went into business for himself. There seems to be a huge chunk of the story concerning Ben and Widmore’s past together that we don’t know. If Ben had somehow betrayed Widmore in the past then it would explain the particular enmity / private war going on between them. The problem is that we know Ben arrived at the Island as a kid with the Dharma Initiative. So how did he come to have dealings with Widmore? Did he get off the island at some point himself? If so then perhaps Widmore recruited him to go back and find the Island’s location for him after which, Ben betrayed him and took the Island for himself?

I believe the general concensus is that Widmore, for whatever reason, believes the island to belong to him (and has something to do with the log book) and he had ill intentions with the properties/powers. Ben came along, encouraged by Richard et al to grow up to lead the Others against Widmores
evils by whatever means they could. Perhaps Ben is only the lesser of the two evils, but I maintain that Widmore is doing what he's doing for self gain and Ben for the sake of saving everyone. I keep being reminded of that idea that the numbers are manipulated to fortell the date of the end of humanity.
(The V...something I can't spell equation). I sort of think Widmore was going to use it, as I said, for power and self gain, Dharma was going to use the island to change that equation but in doing so, would do something horrible in the effort (the end wouldn't justify the means), and Ben is saying, in effect, "Wait! Wait! You can't do that!" and trying to stop THAT from happening. Of course, I've been mistaken before...

That makes sense, I'm just wondering how Ben and Widcombe know each other. they seem to be personally aquinated rather than just knowing about each other from afar. If they never met or had previous dealings then I can understand how Ben would know of Widcome (he has detailed files on everyone connected with the Island) but how would Widcombe know about Ben previous to the arrival of the Freighter and it's crew (and we know that he did because his mercs had specific orders to capture Ben).

That's quite possible. Perhaps at some point Widmore found it and subsequently Ben utilized the island's power to 'hide' it after finding out what Widmore wanted to do.
Regarding the ship's log- it seems odd to me that it got to the mainland in the first place. We know that's it's pretty tough to get off the island, so if someone else stumbled across the island and found the log- then was able to get back off, they probably knew that the island was a special place. Funny that the log ended up in an auction. Perhaps an estate auction of a Hanso family member?
I would still have thought that log would have been better protected- and that Ben or someone else would have been there to see that it didn't wind up in Widmore's hands.

ok ok i have not had a very good nights sleep so i had nothing to do but think. SO go with me here. ok?
I was thinking about the talk between Charles and Ben. What if the book "BAD TWIN" does have something to do with everything. Strange how Cindy is in the book. I was reading some stuff and read that It's about a man looking for his twin. Who does not seem to be a good person. Well could it be that Charles and Ben are twins? I know we saw Ben's mom give brith to him but you know anything could have happened the babys could ahve been switched or anything. We have seen with Richard he don't age could it be the island is keeping him Young? Wow it just hit me could Richard and Charles be the twins and Ben is working for Richard?
I was reading in some post about the book that it has nothing to do with the show. I have not read the book but now i think i should because it does have parts of the show in it. Hold on i'll show you what i mean.
I have already told you about Cindy, Sydney, Australia, The Hanso Foundation, Widmore Corporation, Oceanic Airlines, Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack,
Widmore family, Alvar Hanso, Zander was born on 8/15, Cliff on 8/16, 23 minutes apart ( Zander & Cliff are the twins), The Widmore gate code is #81516, THF is on floor 42 of the Widmore building.
What if the show is all about the power of redemption, consequence of vengeance, and where to turn when all seems lost?
Well let me know what you think again sorry if it sounds stupid something i have been thinking of.

I'd be very surprised (and disappointed) if they threw in an extra baby. :p
If the twin thingy has anything to do wit LOST perhaps the twins are Jacob and someone. Jacob was a famous twin in the bible with a whole story about his brother hating him because he tricked him into giving up his inheritance.
Also, Jacob was a weak guy yet his twin, Esau was very strong. Perhaps Jacob is the weak twin (he was also later left crippled by wrestling with an angel)and Widmore is the strong one (rich, powerful?)
Hmmm...

The Biblical angle does fit nicely here. Several parallels are apparent.
Esau and Widmore match.
------Esau's birthright was stolen by his younger brother "the supplanter" Jacob. Widmore has accused Ben of stealing everything that belongs to him.
------Esau was rich and powerful, controlling men and land & known as a hunter. Widmore was hunting for the Island (and was successful).
------Esau was less concerned with his Father's (Issac's) God and more concerned with his own well being.
Jacob (later renamed Israel-"prince of God")& jacob/and-or ben
------Jacob was scared to death when his older brother Esau came to settle their dispute ( he waited until the father passed away & grieved) He split his camp into two(2) parties in hopes of evading annilation.(sp) Ben split his group-to the Temple.
------Jacob wrestled with the Angel the night before Esau arrived in hopes of Divine intervention. Ben called on Smokie to rescue him. This is also when his name was changed after his struggle with the Angel to Israel.
------Jacob sent wave after wave of peace offerings to Esau as his caravan approached. It worked. I got nothin for this one.:o

Definately. That last part about Jacob and Esau (Widmore) sounds the most likely to me. They've done spirtual/religious stuff before on the show, and it's a very popular archetypical story.
