In Episode 1 Ben specifically mentions that he made a decision that took the lives of over 40 people. There have always been mentions f the number of 815 survivors being just over 40.

Relevent? I say no, it is just pure coincidence.

Episode 1 of this season? When did he say that again, I'm drawing a blank :p But yeah there must be some significance on that...unless he's directly referring to the Purge. I would assume that would have to be more than 40 people though, but we don't know that.

He told that to Jack in the last episode of season 3.

I guess it could be a coinsidence, unless the number of deaths is exactly 42 with aaron counted in, now thats somthing to look in to.

He is telling Jack about when he made the decision to kill all of the original Dharma people with the gas along with his father. That is what cost 40 lives.
