Another thread got me thinking of this.

Please bear with me, I will try to explain myself as clearly as possible.

Hurley won this mega lottery using "the numbers". As we all know, the odds of hitting the lottery are astronomical. Not only that, but those six numbers had to hit on THAT SPECIFIC DRAWING for Hurley to win. Common sense would have to rule out coinsidence. Additionally, there was at least one other example of someone else winning money by using "the numbers". Both
situations lead to the winner experiencing bad luck.

What I can't understand is how did this happen. How did those numbers come up on that specific lottery drawing....was the out come manipulated, and if so, by who?..why?

Did Hurley have a premonition to play those numbers on that day. If this is the case, it's still almost impossible odds that the same numbers written on the hatch would be the winning numbers of any lottery drawing.

Out of the box senerio: The numbers on the hatch were determined by Hurley's lottery numbers...this doesn't make sense from a timeline perspective,
but "island time works differently".

What if Hurley didn't win the lottery...what does this mean?

Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The makers of Lost have often spoke that there is a theme of Fate vs Free Will running through the show. I assume Hurley's lottery win would be an example of Fate in action.

Once you watch episode "Meet Kevin Johnson" You start to realize why Hurley won that Loto. Let's just say it was the will of the enity. No matter what Hurley would have done he couldn't change the fact he won that loto. Something would have happend to make him play it.

Hurley got the numbers from Lenard Simms while playing connect 4 at the mental institution. Lenard got the numbers while when he was stationed in the south pacific (Navy). He and Sam Tooney heard a transmission. The same numbers were being repeated over and over (4 8 15 16 23 42). That transmission came from same the tower that was sending Rousseau's distress signal. (she switched the tape). Hurley went to Australia to meet with Martha Tooney (Sam's wife). Her story confirmed Hurley's "bad luck" theory.

Things that make you think Hurley was not supposed to be on the island...
Hurley had bought a Lotto ticket on a whim . He barely made the plane, a re-scheduled flight on the other side of the airport.

Was the lotto fixed ?
If one entity (corporation) sent Hurley to the Island they would have to have contacts in a lot of places and very good timing.

I'm leaning towards fate. Everyone is (was/will be) there for a reason.
