View Full Version : The "key" to this entire game.

I wonder if the game of Risk that Locke, Sawyer and Hurley were playing was some subtle foreshadow.
Hurley says "I can't believe you're giving him Australia it's the key to the whole game." Funny.
But it also wouldn't surprise me to learn at the end of the series that the writers were dropping hints like this through the entire series.

I keep wondering about the same connection. As we all know, the object of Risk is to take over the world, so is that what Widmore and Ben are up to?

That's an interesting theory. The person who controls the island, controls the world. The only problem is that we don't know why everyone wants the island. What do we REALLY know about the islands importance?

There are no shortage of theories about the island, but if the Risk game is a metaphor for Ben and Widmore's battle, then I'm guessing the island has even more powers than we currently know about - time/space travel isn't bad, but there's probably more to it. That's why the Risk game is so interesting. Of course, the game could mean nothing.

Ben has at least 3 pieces in Australia, or at least from Australia.
(Claire Littleton)(Walt Lloyd)(Cindy Chandler)
Maybe these too.
(Emma and Zack?)(vincent)
and he had Western American territory pieces captured or killed (James Ford)(Kate Austen)(John Locke)(Hugo Reyes) (Ana Lucia Cortez)(Libby)(Goodwin Stanhope)
He also had Southern Europe (Danielle Rousseau)
And Ontario (Ethan Rom)(Nathan)
The Eastern United States may be his now but not before he lost a lot of them and it seems that he got rid of some himself maybe so he could capture the territory? (Shannon Rutherford) (Boone Carlyle) (Michael Dawson)(Rose Henderson-Nadler)(Bernard Nadler)(Juliet Burke)(Leslie Arzt)(Gary Troup)(Anthony Cooper)(Jack Shephard)(Kelvin Joe Inman)(Harper Stanhope)
I think that he captured Eastern US with his pieces from Western US because he had 5 to 4 then he lost Goodwin.
It seems to make wierd sense to me, maybe I'm just tired.

Here are just two things to keep in mind:
First of all, they aren't even in Australia, they flew from Australia, so it's really just a commonality. Secondly, in the actual game of Risk, Australia only has one attack point. It's often a good strategy to gain Australia because it can only be attacked from one point, making it much easier to defend. Other continents have multiple points of attack that will spread your defensive troops out more, but in Australia you can focus them all in one region to defend the entire continent.

I think the Austrailia comment due to what Ort explained and also a reference to what we already know- Austrailia was a big factor in the Losties coming together. IMO the reference was too obvious to have any major meaning.
