What if Ben and Widmore are something like brothers-we have been putting many theories on the table and this almost sounds reasonable...The "rule" is not to kill family-Alex was not techincally family and maybe Penny is not really Widmores daughter....

Also, this whole Ben landing in the desert is still bothering me....I do not believe the show is going to have time travel...I have read on other threads there are 2 different types we could be seeing happening...Ok 1-someone mentioned a back to the future type travel-this could not be it could it as ben would had to had already been in the desert (in that particular location) in order to move forward or backward in time-correct?? Just like the movie BTTF....I know this show is not realistic, but the other type of time travel-like a machine-do you really think the writers would have that???? I know it was strange and he had the parka on..but do you think it may have just been something to throw us off????

I keep mentioning the show Quantim Leap...I am not sure if everyone knows/remembers this show...I actually liked this show...However, at the end of every show he would land in another time/era/location and play a character of that time to fix whatever problem....I refuse to believe Ben can jump time-like that show...

Thoughts???

Funny you should mention Quantum Leap. I was just watching part of that last night or the night before. I liked the show, too. It was different for that time. I'm not sure about the time travel thing on Lost yet. Its possible, I guess. And not to change the subject, but when Ben landed in the dessert, he had a wound or something on his arm. What do you think that was?

I am not sure what that was...For all we know he was captured in Iraq and was like a hostage and escaped...ya know what really happens to people over there..

but i refuse the Quantim Leap theory...

Yea, the whole Ben waking up in the desert scene is a real head scratcher. All I can imagine is that sometime on the island, the Dharma Initiative learned how to teleport things (like a polar bear - poor thing, and a rabbit that was shown in a video) and then people. I think it's become Ben's favored mode of travel. But a parka in the desert? Where did he come from? Could be that listening post in Greenland (or wherever it was) where the two fellows called Penny from? Has Ben already started his search for her? That wound on his arm sure looked like a knife wound. A bullet would have just made a round hole, but this looked like a cut. Perhaps he got into a knife fight and had to make a hasty exit into who knew where (or when) through his handy-dandy teleportation contraption.

It's funny you mention brothers. Did anyone else notice that when Ben was in Whitmore's bedroom, Whitmore kept referring to him in a stern voice "Benjamin"...like as if he was reprimanding him...almost like a big brother would do????

He referred to him as "boy" as well didn't he? Seemed like it was a weakened opponent trying to psych out his superior nemesis to me.

I think teleporting is in play somehow. This may take us back to the Vile Vortice issue.

It had to start sometime;-) I'm guessing during the time that Ben knew him Widmore was a pretty shrewd businessman. The whiskey by his bed would symbolize a reliance on it, something that probably wasn't an issue before.

Or perhaps it was just a jab at Widmore knowing what kind of stress he's under having failed at finding the island.

The whiskey by the bed sounds like a remedy for nightmares and for getting yourself calmed enough to go to sleep---especially if you're doing some risky business.

Re: Ben's desert landing:
I'm reading an older sci fi book on matter transmission and in that book it only does that one thing-just transfer matter from one place to another. Also, they can only go in one direction 'cause they need another machine to go back to where they came from. Maybe that's true for lost, too.

Also, when Ben opened the doors to get Smokie to come out, I almost cracked up thinking about some comedy sketch where he has 10 or 15 different odd doors to open before he finally gets into the cave. Off topic, but the Lost nite excitement is building!!!!!!

When Ben asked Widmore since when did he start sleeping with a bottle of whiskey by the bed, he said to him,"ever since the nightmares started..."
So, he's either done a few or been through a few things that weighs heavy on his mind. Can't wait to find out!!!

I was thinking that the laceration on his arm may be a side effect of the 'teleportation.' Maybe when you move that way, you don't come out unscathed. Sort of like all of the particles not making it in the transfer.
