When did Ben visit Widmore?

Watching last week's episode over again got me thinking. At the end Widmore and Ben discussed finding the island. Ben told him he would never find the island while Widmore swore he would. Hadn't Widmore's men already found the island? Don't you think he would have known where the freighter was? Shouldn't it be easier to locate the island now? Ok, the radio was down but if Sayid was able to fix it rather quickly for Desmond to be able to communicate with Penny, don't you think the ship would be able to communicate with Widmore. Or the Sat phones might have been able to make contact with him.

I guess I am suggesting that ben went back in time to tell him he would kill Penny. I know there are some holes, but the items above stuck out in my mind upon 2nd review of the episode.

If Widmore didn't hear from the Freighter, I guess it's safe to assume that the Freightor and the people on the Freighter don't make it back to the mainland and may be on the island or dead at sea. I think it is clear that the O6 didn't make it off the island via the freighter. There is something yet to come to rescue them.

Widmore cant find the island because its almost untracable

Just cos you find it once doesnt mean you can find it again
Why do you think Jack finds it so hard to get back in the future?
Ben told Jack before that since the sonar beacon was down the sub
probably wouldnt be able to get back to the island either. For one
to find the island it must be coincidence or there must be something
solid to latch to, like EMP or sonar.

We can assume from the convo that the freighter mission failed
and the boat was destroyed or something, and now Widmore cant
find the island again. It has been suggested before that the island
also moves, sort of like how a moon orbits a planet.

And why would Ben travel back to tell him that when he could
go just thatlittle bit forward?

The other two things are Ben says he was just in Iraq, and also
if he went back in time, then Widmore wouldnt know what he was
on bout when he mentioned him changing the rules,cos he wouldnt
have done it yet.

On top of the writers saying that he visited after talking to Sayid in
Iraq, we can place the confrontation about late Oct/early Nov 2005
