OK, I know I'm fairly new to these particular boards (and apologize if it's been said before), but here's a thought I had while watching the last 2 episodes since the break:
What if the events happening "on" the island are progressing through time chronologically, ie -------->,
and the "flash forwards" from season 4-6 progress backwards or <----------
In other words, Seasons 1-3 are flashbacks that build up, 4-6 build down.
That would lead me to believe the scene between Jack and Kate at the airport was the "finale" to the show, in a sense.
What do you think?
