My (Tongue in Cheek) theory is that Jack's erradic behavior has its roots soley at the feet of his wayward ex-wife. Now Kate is lying to Jack....having phone calls and then hanging up abruptly when Jack comes around....disappearing for long periods for her boyfriend/lover Sawyer. Women need to take note of the longterm damage they do when they have affairs!!!! Of course I could be completely off base!!!:D:p;)

I don't think anyone--man or woman--who is prone to cheating is stopping to think about long-term emotional scarring they might be causing.

What I don't understand is why Jack refuses to let himself be happy, make a leap of faith, and trust Kate. He just proposed to her and a few days later he's all secretive and suspicious, and doesn't tell her the truth. Why couldn't Kate make the same leap and tell him about the phone call and the rest of it? So now neither of them seem to be able to make a go of it. Why Couldn't Kate have leveled with Jack, her fiance? What's the matter with them? I don't think either of them deserve to be raising Aaron. Claire might have been young but she told the truth and seemed to have her act together better than either Jack or Kate. I"m going to pull a Michael: Clairrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre, where are you?

Because he's a dick!

How did he get to be the leader? I wouldn't trust him to tie his own shoes.

I just feel disappointed when we are rooting for people and hoping they will stand fast to something, then they get crazy and take a nose dive.. Maybe the "power" of the island can explain why people off the island seem to be very misguided. Heavy sigh.....

I think Jack is slipping because he's freaked out over Hurley's message and seeing his dad flashes! Add to that ya, a stressful work place, but I think he is carrying around baggage. He did something bad I think. Compromised so he could get Kate off the island and maybe stranded others. Maybe the others are killed by Keamy because of him. He's got guilt eating away at him and he can't be happy with Kate and life. They have to go back and he has to make things right is my opinon.

that's what I was about to say. But, yes, he's also been emotionally scarred from his first marriage. But then, I really don't think Kate would run back to Sawyer (even figuratively, being that he's not actually there). I do think Kate meant it when she implored Jack to trust her on this...

my interpretaion is a bit different. she was saying trust me, you'll be better off if you just leave it alone. She was begging him not to pry. She knew he was falling off the wagon...it's a vicious cycle.

Jack's ex, played by Julie Bowen, messed with his mind. See the link:

I agree totally. That is why in the very first flash foward that we saw it was Jack and Kate meeting at the airport and Jack telling Kate that they had to go back to the island. I think that was after everything that we saw last night, dont you?

Sounds like someone speaks from experience. Lets remember that men often have affairs too, and that as well can leave damage.

As far as the whole Jack/Kate fight goes, it seemed to me like Jack had lost it, he was drunk and incapable of talking to kate about what was bothering him without placing blame on her. She obvioulsy at that point wants to be with Jack, but she made a promise to Sawyer and prolly still has feelings for him which arent going to go away. I can see how that would hurt Jacks feelings but he needs to be reasonable with her

He does need to be reasonable with her, but she needs to be honest with him. You can't expect a marriage to work apart from honesty and openness.

they are not even married yet, and probably wont go through with it, and the problems have started. they should have just kept it simple ay.

i just thought, what a jerk thing to say about her not being related.

He is related and didn't try to help raise AAron until after the trial ( whenever)
She may not be related, but at least she was helping AAron.

Another thought is this. When Aaron walked out all sad and depressed with his stuffed toy, I thought is Jack's behavior partly why he's not supposed to be there? He should have gone over and gave Aaron a hug.

I think it's safe to say that Jack / Kate are a bad couple.
They obviously have strong feelings for each other, but perhaps too strong.
Kate has never been very honest or even particularly faithful to Jack, and he's so smitten with her that her sneaky behaviour drives him to suspicion and paranoia. It's never gonna work like that.

The flash forwards of them as a couple seem to follow the same theme for the other Oceanic 6. Hurley ends up committed to a mental hospital again, Sun is left as a widow. Sayid has his wife murdered.
Everyone who escaped the island seems to have ended up miserable.

I agree that the meeting between Jack and Kate at the airport is probably even further in the future than the Jack & Kate couple we seen in the last episode.
It looks like they've already split up by that point.

I agree. See, should have been honest.

If the flashforwards are getting closer to the time they leave the island, then it would stand to reason that the brief time Jack and Kate lived together was only fleeting happiness and that she will still want to or need to keep Aaron right there despite Jack and Hurley going crazy to get back to the island...

That made me laugh! Very early in the series Jack was the only person who made decisions affecting the survivors, but I think his character's fatal flaw is his need to control everything - sometimes it works for him, but sooner or later it blows up in his face.

Jack is a gob****e! You'd think he'd learn from the mistakes he made with his first wife!
I'm delighted though, it's much more hopeful for her and Sawyer now!

I think that's what his problem is.....he never seems to learn a lesson from anything that happens with him!!! (it's why he NEEEEDS to go back)
He's sooooo stubborn!!
