I know the UH-60 Blackhawk hold's 2 pilots, and a crew chief (door gunner). Plus 12 soldiers and their combat load.

The type of helicopter they have is a civilian version I'm not familiar with , but it has to be smaller than a Blackhawk. We only saw part of the Merc Crew. I assumed their were more trailing the lead. But that might have been all of the unit.

Its actually more about fuel and weight really. So the mercs at five and the chopper pilot making six is feasable. When he first went in, it was chopper Frank, Miles, Charlotte and Daniel (four) and all of their equipment. Back to the freighter was Frank, Sayid, Desmond and dead Naomi (four) and Frank said he could take more but did not because he was low on fuel. So it is not a stretch that there could be six on the chopper, but I would not think it could hold much more, especially since they also had their commando equipment.

Also, remember that the first chopper that went in and dropped Naomi crashed in the ocean and that seemed to be a more substantial copter. (there is room on the freighter deck for two). Frank's seems to be a lesser back-up unit.

Actually on the way there it would have been Frank, Daniel, Miles, Charlotte, and Naomi.

So for sure there was two choppers? It seemed strange that there wasn't two choppers on the Freighter during a flashback. I watched that "Crash" scene again and I just can't see a chopper crash in the water.

Back to the freighter was Frank, Sayid, Desmond and dead Naomi (four) and Frank said he could take more but did not because he was low on fuel.

Didn't Frank say that he would bring back Naomi on the next trip because he was worried about the weight/fuel?

I'm pretty sure Naomi thought the chopper crashed. But so did Daniel, Miles, and Charlotte (because they all came out of the same chopper in parachutes). Remember when Miles (or it might have been Charlotte) caught up with Frank and asked what happened to the chopper, and he said he put it down safely?

Not ever had done this. But I hear that you Can't parachute from a helicopter cause the blades will suck you up and kill you.... anyone with any knowledge of this ?????

Well, obviously, you can't eject from one the same way you can a plane, but you can jump from the helicopter and then open the chute.....I think.

dropping from a heli is a kick in the butt, you dont hit the wall of wind like an airplane, and the wind does not get sucked up into the rotors or the chopper would have a hell of a time getting up in the air. LOL

No, blades do not suck air up, they push air down. But yes it could screw with your parachute opening, but you can jump as copter is moving and then pull chute, that would work, because the copter would no longer be affecting the air above you. Or you wait a few seconds prior to pulling the chute.

It can be done. At the altitude they were most likely flying it would be extremly dangerous. You wouldn't want to open your shute until you were far away from the bird. Fastroping is a better way. Kind of like sliding down a fireman's pole. Of course, they were practically crashing right? I've repeled out of UH-60's , but never parachuted.

The only safe helicopter jump would need to be from a high altitude. High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) jumps require special equipment and usually done from a C-130. I am not sure what a smallgroup of civilians would use. someone else might be more versed in the specifics-but that's what I think.

yes, the altitude they bailed from would be very risky, kind of like base jumping but they have their drag chute in hand when they jump

Naomi flew in on another chopper well before Frank and the rest came.

Not all the guys will go on the chopter. They did arrive on the island all together some how. My thought is thatthey arrived by boat more quiter and camo. Where a chopter would be loud and noticable. I imagine only the hurt man and perhaps another man to help him get around will go with Fank.

Yea, fastroping is a blast, did it from a CH-46.
