Sawyer's a con man and has made many a promise that he has never kept. I would not be to concerned about keeping a promise to Sawyer. I think somehing bigger is a foot. Plus, Kate has historically kept huge secrets from Jack and others, so she has a track record for the big lie.

I thought he did ask and she kept saying you need to trust me. I can't really remember now but if he didn't ask that is kinda strange it would have been my first question.
