Jacob is a poltergeist, a spiritual haunting of Ben by his father's spirit. The telekinetic power of Ben's rage toward his father mixed with the island energy amasses great power to Ben. The appearance of the poltergeist has been seen before, by Jack as his father, By Kate as the horse, by Mr. Ecko as his brother, and others. Ben panics when Locke's connection to the island is not sundered by patricide. Locke perceives that Ben has been manipulating people for long enough to build suspicion and enemies within his own group.

What do you think????

I can't really tell if Ben is afraid of Jacob due to the reasons you are saying here or due to what he doesn't know about Jacob. He could certainly be some supernatural being. Why does Jacob cry "help me" to Locke? The island def. does have reservoirs of rage (Smokey) and we haven't been given much to go on when it comes to Jacob. I hope there will be some very BIG dots to connect in the future. Your theories are as good or better than anyone's.

I agree with beachblinkette that ia a cool theory. If he is a poltergeist, which is a form of a ghost. Maybe they should take Miles there. He seems to connect with the dead somehow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------That is if Jacob is dead. A spirit isn't always a dead person.

Just one note though..I think the horse was real. Sawyer saw it, too, plus there are many various animals scattered on the island, even a cow.
Not that that was important. Everything else you said was thought provoking.

I like you idea. Quite possible. But, could Jacob actually be Ben? By that I mean with all the time travel is it possible that Ben. A Ben from the future who knows all of what will transpire somehow ended up trapped in the past and is in the cabin. His dislike of technology would be directly related to his continual use of the time machine. His knowledge of future technology would look like magic to those unfamiliar with it. Perhaps the Ben that took Locke to meet Jacob doesn't even recognize himself.

Whooooh there Glen2000! That's an awsome theory. I had to read it two or three times just understand what you were trying to say. Very cool idea, very creative thinking. That would be so cool if Ben doesn't even know who that is in the cabin, be even more cool if it turns out to be himself like you suggest.
