With almost every person thinking that Claire is destined to die (or that she is dead already!), and with our knowledge that Aaron "cannot be raised by another", wouldnt it seem that our little "turnip head" is totally and utterly F*UCKED! I mean with the powers that be (The Island or Jacob or whoever!) making it clear that even Jack, his own Uncle, is not supposed to raise him, it seems Aaron has no other choice but to become the anti-christ and bring about the worlds ultimate destruction. But that all depends on IF Claire does infact die...I for one dont think she will but I get the feeling I'm part of the minority on this. Sucks for Aaron...

I'm in the minority with you. I'm really thinking Claire will live. Then again, I said the same thing with Charlie. :( I still miss him!

Am I wrong in thinking that all of the "you're not supposed to raise him" business and the work of Sayid and Ben in the future to help get back at Widmore (and of Ben to re-find the island) are gearing us up for the survivors/escapee(s) of the island to attempt some sort of return/rescue? It doesn't seem realistic that everyone left on the island will die. It doesn't seem logical that we'd be told from Season 1 that no one but Claire can raise her baby, for Jack to know this, etc., only to have the series end with Jack and Kate raising the kid. I mean, there does ultimately have to be some sort of resolution and point to this crap...LOL.

Everyone is assuming that when Hurley said "you're not supposed to raise him" he was talking about Aaron - what if the message was about Jack's dad??
Maybe Jack is not supposed to physically or spiritually raise his dad into his consciousness (sp?) - In other words, forget about your dad and move on with your life...??
Maybe when his dad visited him before the Doctor showed up, he was going to tell Jack to let him go.
Whatcha think?

see its that sort of thinking outside the box (no not bens box!) that has gotten you the respect of our fellow board members...but jack letting go of something??? you and i both know locke has a better chance of rocking a mullet next season than of jack letting something go...

...I agrfee that Jack is stubborn but I think we will see him in the state he is in at the end of S3, and drinking, etc if he doesn't let it go. He was always in competition with hsi dad and I do think this is more of a message regarding Jack/Dad than Jack/Aaron.

i only got one problem with that idea...from what we saw prior to jacks meeting with psycho hurley it seemed he really had started to "let go" of his father or at least make peace with their relationship...we even saw him talking nice about christian and giving him props for his story telling skills...if the "your not supposed to raise him, jack" line was a reference to him and his father i think hugo would have been better off keeping a tight lip...it seemed like jack was doing the whole "letting go" thing all on his own and that creepy ass statement only made things worse

God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own, as the song goes. Jack is not able to old onto anything for very long. The Midas touch in reverse I've heard it called. I feel sorry for Aaron, who, if he were a real child, would be at the mercy of Jack, Kate, and whoever else comes into the picture. He comes out of the room as they are arguing, looking forlorn. Just who is thinking about whom here?
They do not deserve to be raising Aaron when they can't, either one of them, resolve issues that should be laid to rest. I"m just so disappointed in both of them. Let the dead bury the dead. Whoever said they should get on with their lives, quit beating a dead horse, let bygones be bygones, forgive and forget, turn over a new leaf, is right. But that looks to be impossible when you are a knucklehead.

Yes, I agree with you, I think we all need to get back inside the box on that one.
I thought the whole 'you're not supposed to raise him' meant that Jack shouldn't raise Aaron because his cynical, ultra logical (and detrimental) ways would be a bad influence on Aaron and the inherent spirituality he possessed from being born on the island.

No, I really really think it's because NO ONE is supposed to raise him but Claire, or the psychic man in season one wouldn't have been so freaked out and adament about it. There's a reason and I just think it's because he saw an alternate outcome if destiny would be tampered with... and that's what certain of the Losties are doing. Again, the question is, just because you CAN change destiny, does that mean you SHOULD??? Don't forget creepy ring lady and what she warned Desmond. Evidently, one CAN change things, but throwing a monkey wrench into what the outcome was predetermined to be could "kill every one of us." ... and lots more...

A bit too much of a stretch IMO. The term as you're using it (or suggesting it may be being used in the show) doesn't make a lot of sense IMO. It doesn't appear as if Jack is purposefully making his dad appear so I don't think he needs to be told not to do it.
Anything's possible though:)

Maybe Jack was going to raise or exhume(sp?) that damn coffin no one knows who is in there??? Or his Dad's for an autopsy or to see if he's really in it?

ok we are talking about someone who is suppose to be dead talking to the living and the living passing it on to another living person...ok say it is true that hurley is really talking to charlie-yes i know we seen him but i have issues with talking to the dead-but if this is true-what if charlie is just pissed that it is jack and kate....not him and claire...or since apparently charlie is relaying the future to hurley-you are going to have a visitor-what if it is you are not suppose to raise him cause it is known that him and kate are not going to last...and that is just hard on a child....
i like the idea that maybe it wasnt about aaron-now about his father i dunno-i would think hurley would have said something like-let go and let god-hes dead!!!...but i really think it was about aaron..

Just something for you all to ponder: Hurley said that ( Charlie said ) Charlie's message was for Jack ( did not mention or include Kate ).

XmasDVD I think that an awsome theory and works fine with regard to Charlie's message. But a phsycic also told Claire only she could raise him but later changed his mind and told her to give Aaron to a family in L.A.. Unless like someone mentioned in another thread maybe the phsycic learned later if she got on flight 815 a chain of events
would lead Claire to someone else who could raise Aaron.

Yep, I think Kate is deemed "worthy" to raise Aaron. After all, she seems to be the only person post-island who isn't depressed (although we haven't seen much of Sun) but I think that means the island says its ok for her to be gone. Plus, the only thing Kate really seems to care about anymore is Aaron, so that works in her favor.

I'm sorry to say this, Kate may not be depressed, but making secretive decisions (if it is to help Sawyer) doesn't sound very wise to me when you have been on a roller coaster ride like watching familial abuse, killing her father, running from the law, the crash, the island, the love affair with Sawyer, grieving some losses, the new parent responsibilities, the trial, and the engagement to Jack.
I seriously question her very mixed-up thinking here. Granted that she loves Aaron, but that never kept a parent from making bad decisions when it comes to the child. What other well-meaning co-dependent activities will she be open to in the future to the detriment of Aaron and to her own survival?

Post-island Kate seems to be a very different person. The only secretive thing she has done so far was to do something for Sawyer, and anyone would understand her not wanting to tell Jack about it. I mean, just look at what happened when she did, Jack freaked out.
Except for that one tiny instance, I think everything we've seen Kate do post-island has been for Aaron. She could have pushed the trial a little more to get completely off the hook for any charges but easily agreed to probation just to get back to Aaron. All those detriments you mention are completely in the past. Now that she's free from that, I seriously doubt she will do anything to jeopardize herself or Aaron.

Well, I respectfully seriously disagree with the idea that Kate is free from the past. If she were so free would she feel she had to do something for someone that has to be kept from her fiance? No 815 survivor is free from the past as we can readily see in Hurley, Sayid, Jack, Sun, Michael, Walt, Aaron, the coffin, etc. If that's the freedom they're dishing out, I pass!

The freedom I was referring to was being free from the law, being chased by a Marshall, being hunted, etc. There's a big difference between this freedom and Kate wanting to help an old friend. We don't know the circumstances to Sawyer staying behind and we don't even know what she was doing for him.

I share this line of thought.
Jack royally screws up everything he tries to fix. He tends to start with good intentions and high hopes, however it soon unravels. Jack's parenting skills reflect his own upbringing. The men in the Sheppard family must have a few flaws in parenting abilities. Claire and noone else should raise Aaron ( no, not even Kate) Both Aaron and Walt are not being utilized right now for whatever purpose the Others wanted them for.
Walt is just living in NY. Shouldn't he be in a "school" honing his "skills"
Same for Aaron. Whatever special abilities he has are not being cultivated.
It's weird that Charlie's message to Jack was about Aaron. After being so close to Aaron and Claire for so long on the Island, he is still in volved with Aaron's wellbeing. Is Charlie jealous because he thinks it was his job to raise Aaron? Or could he be looking out for everyone's best interest. Why is Hurley part of relaying the message? Why couldn't Charlie go straight to Jack? (especially if Charlie knows a Visitor is coming Jacks' way.)
Did Charlie obtain heightened position by dying in service to the Island? ( Ben said all his people were prepared to do so. Is there a reward for that?---like a 72 virgins kind of thing??) Maybe once you bite the dust on the Island you gain powerful knowledge and insight somehow. Look at Horace. He went from working for Dharma to cutting wood for Jacob. The former being an important job 'saving the world'. The latter being an equally important one. (maybe?? )
