I am nearly sure that island is an axis of land, sky and heaven and also hell.
In nearly all ancient beliefs, there is a place that is believed to be the center of the world..Such as Meru, Sumeru, El-Burz, Zinnalo, Himininjborg...
These places are believed that they are transition points to other cosmological dimensions..the places that you can transite to other places..
these are centres of universe and also called the door of sky..also has connection to hell or heaven..
I invite all who can contribute with mythical knowledge to this theory. and begin to explain all things in the island on this point..
