I just rewatched ep. 5, where Jack rescues Boone out of the sea. Charlie wakes up Jack and tells him someone is drowning... as Jack runs off, Charlie shouts "I dont swim!"

Two months later he VOLUNTEERS to swim X feet underwater to the Looking glass. WTH? did I miss something?

mhm...thats right and Desmond saved him when Claire was drowning and if he could swim that deep i dont think he would have drown

ya when joanna was drowning he did say tht, but maybe he just didnt want to risk his life. cuz he said "i dont swim" not "i cant swim". and even if he did say i cant swim he could have just said tht to have an excuse not to go in. and i thnik the los producers knew how he was going to die because i forgot wat episode it was in but charlie and hurley were walking along the beach with aaron and charlie says "the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout, down came the rain and drowned the spider out" and then hurley is like dude washed the spider out not drowned.

oh charlie was a good guy...i miss him!

That shows how much Charlie has changed since we first meet him in S1. It took him three seasons to discover his place in life and to become the true hero. He could have jumped in and saved jonna possably. But he was affraid to. In s3 he was willing to because he had accepted who he truly was that he wasn't just some rehab drug additc. That he was a hero figure. I don't think Charlie could swim. he just kinda paddled his way down to the looking glass. Because remember his flash back he had a hard time swiming.

I think charlie said he doesn't swim because he's not very good at it and HE HAD THE LAST OF HIS HEROIN STASH IN HIS POCKET AND WAS A JUNKIE

I agree, I think the heroine was the reason he did not go in. Also, he does have a hard time swimming as a child, so maybe he can swin, just does not like to.
