Maybe someone can help me with this issue. It has already been determined that time moves much slower on the island then off the island. so how can the doctor come ashore before he dies on the frieghter if off the island its supposed to be later in the year then on the island. Does that make sense?? also, is claire dead?? they have said christian is dead and this isnt purgartory, yet dead people keep showing up. Also, is Richard the actual leader of the others. is chrisitian actually jacob. Just starting to think these writers are gonna give us a hell of a let down when they are unable to close all the doors they have opened. im ready for another sopranos dibacle.

That confused me also. How can the doctor be dead on the island and still alive on the boat?

Maybe this was the start of the time travel to move the island? Jacob just needs Locke to finish it? There was a time loop going on in Locke's dream and an apparent time loop with the doc.

I'm almost afraid that the writers are not going to find a resolution to these paradoxes (parodoxis?). Like the numbers. Those damn numbers!

My family and I were just discussing this last night. What if in the rush to finish, the writers forget about a few of the mysteries they started. The show has so many it would be hard for them to tie it all up with a pretty pink bow.

This is a problem. You need to go back to Faraday's original experiment. A rocket was sent to the island from the freighter, which should have arrived in 30 seconds, but was late about 30 minutes. This suggested that the island was behind real time. So, if that was happening, then the Doc should have washed ashore well after his throat was slit, then before the occurence. So, there does not seem to be any consistency with the time shifts, forward or backward. I think I'll have that drink now....

Plus, once this show is over, the producers are going to make a bundle when they sell their tell-all books!

I don't think that the island was every "behind" in time. It just seemed to me that the rocket to a little longer to find the only way in and out of the island. If you remember to when Jack was asking why it was taking so long for Sayid and Desmond to call and let them know they were safe on the ship, Daniel Faraday (the scientist) said something about the time on the island isn't what you think it is. Leading me to believe that the time on the island is much faster the in the real world. I also don't think that there is a set time that the island is off by. I think at times it is slow and at other time it is fast...any thoughts on that?

In this instance, the island was ahead of time. I don't think it's made fully clear whether it's one or the other; all you need to know is that the island exists out of linear time (sometimes past, sometimes future).
also, is claire dead??
Yep, I would say so. I wasn't convinced she was until this episode. There are too many hints in what Christian said.
It also fits with my theory of 'manifested thought-forms'. Christian said not to tell anyone - and I think this is because if people think she's still alive, their minds will make it so and she will continue to 'act' alive. But if they think she's dead, she will start acting ghost-like and her existence will be much more transient (like Christian's) and not everyone will be able to see her.
Also, is Richard the actual leader of the others.
He was certainly high up in their chain-of-command. Maybe he was leader at the time.
is chrisitian actually jacob.
No. I think Christian said himself he wasn't Jacob. Jacob communicates via Christian etc. They are mediums between himself and the survivors.

was the rocket sent via the correct coordinates?
if not, this explains why it was detained, floating around in the time displacement waiting room and late.
if the coorect azimuth was used (305) it shjould arrive opn time

I don't think they ever had the correct azimuth. If you remember Daniel told the pilot to go back the EXACT same way he came in. Maybe that is when they learned about it.
Or if they did have them, maybe there it's just a small window. That would explain why they are flying so low when traveling in and out of there.

I don't think it's faster or slower. Remember Desomond's flash backs, they were scattered. I think time is just different, like a web rather than a line.

What happens when you veer off the coordinates?
Does it affect time?

Let's start at the end of the last epesode and work backwards,Locke goes into the cabin expecting to see Jacob, but instead has a conversation with Jacks dad,who we know is dead, then he sees Claire and has a conversation with her also,so that means Locke is in the sixth sense and can see dead people, when did Claire die? (in the explosion at the camp?)..OR perhaps all the passangers on the Oceanic flight are already dead?and like Bruce Willis in the sixth sense don't realize they are dead?...but then how can they interact with people who are still alive?
Hurly can see dead people (Charlie) and Jack has seen his dead father on the Island,Ben can also see dead people (Jacob...who is he?)
Time Travel & The Island...The Dhama Inititive was investigating the paranormal events happening on the Island, and were murdered by THE OTHERS,were they dead also?..Richard/Ben can time travel back to the future (and the past)..and was looking to Locke instead of Ben to save the Island ..moving the Island?...Is the black smoke monster also protecting the Island?
When Jack tells Kate that they have to go back to the Island...does he finally realize (like Bruce Willis) that they are all really dead, and that they should be back on the Island with the rest of the Oceanic souls.
It's all very entertaining stuff !!...I just love the show, and there are more questions than answers,so sit back and enjoy it!!..give me more Kate flash backs/forward please !!
See ya in another life brother

Hey, mister~ Can you spare a dime? Why do you think the jet broke up in mid-air when it flew over the island? Why didn't the rocket disintegrate or break up?
Why didn't Yemi's plane break up? Is it one of the manifestations someone posted a theory about?
Is the freighter drifting closer to the island (or vice versa) and somehow that accounts for the doc washing up on the I, before he actually dies on the F.? Confusing......
If the I.'s time continuum is not linear, then it might be another configuration such as a helix or an ellipse or a web as JohnnieGo suggested.
Can time fold back upon itself like the folds in a piece of cloth?
Are we able to make real sense out of that?
Is that why some things can get through to crash, like the balloon, the Black Rock, the Dharmans? The D.'s either made many trips or they transferred matter somehow. That's why I say its flux in the vial, but I don't know exactly what that means. Begin hearty guffaws.
How did all the hatches and complicated stations and all get built on an island that doesn't seem to let people access it easily? Has the island always been elusive? How could anyone find it then?
Is Smokie occupying what's left of the underground pits (?) that were excavated to help construct the stations, etc? Who accomplished all that building and digging and how did they do it?
Are we getting any clues about the I. from the fact that Ben/Others built their village on a smaller island, not the big island?
I'm with the poster who said that they hoped the writers could tie it all together somehow. any thoughts.....?

Ooh you're on to something there! There was a time loop in Locke's dream so it's definitely something to do with that!
