View Full Version : The "other" Oceanic Survivors

The one gripe i have about the show,is that the writers had to many survivors from the Oceanic Flight (48)
Obviously to make the show so watchable & enjoyable, you can only develop a story around the main actors/stars of the show...what annoys me is to see another survivor (extra) in a background sceane, and wonder who the f*ck is that???
If they had started the show with ~less~ survivors...say 23..the writers could have least written in a couple of lines/bit parts for these people,so the viewers know who they are/what they look like.
I'm assuming that other LOST fans have already brought up this subject on the boards, but i don't have time to read through all the threads.

yes they did start off with too many and some did have a few lines here and there then they tried to introduce nikki & paulo & that never worked so they have been gradually killing peeps off lol!
i agree, maybe if they had started with less it might have been easier for them and us to deal with.

If we can suspend disbelief enough to accept that a plane breaks apart in the sky pretty far above the ground and people actually survive, then IMO they wouldn't need to put any other survivors in there. Our main characters from the tail and fuselage would have sufficed.

perhaps there really is a reason for so many other survivors?

If you didn't have the other survivors, who would Keamy's dudes have killed? Just think without the other survivors we would never have had Sawyer yelling for people to get back inside while they were getting picked off one by one. They are always good for a laugh.

As justjoe pointed out,the other survivors are there to be killed off,so we can have a laugh? because we know NOTHING about them.
It reflects the way our society is,a homeless person on the street,or the genocide in Darfur, and the other nameless faces in the crowd,it's hard to get peeps to care about them.
It just seems wierd,to see all these "other" survivors (extras) in the background sceanes, without knowing ANYTHING about them..and i've seen a couple of "cute" female survivors, who i would have liked to see more of....oh wait forget it they were killed by Keamy's dudes..nevermind !!

that's exactly the case, imagine trying to create a desert island story (where it's difficult to introduce new characters) with and no set number of episodes to produce. I know Disney is behind the whole machine but this is not Swiss Family Robinson, they need disposable characters.
I can't blame the writers, they kept Scot (or is it Steve) around and all the extras because they needed them. When they tried to insert some backstory for Nickie and Paulo, we the viewers hated it. So they stopped, I'll pat them on the back for that because I have to assume everyone who is not introduced have a backstory just as poor as Nickie & Paulo. Keemy and Co. are saving the viewers a great deal of time every time they spend rounds on those extras we don't feel are necessary.

Yeah they are like the guy's in red uniforms on Star Treck. You know they are gonna die.
Hell with all this talk about the walking dead maybe they aren't "survivers" maybe most of them were killed in the crash.

It makes you wonder how many are gonna die when Keamy gets back on the island again. They've had Bernard and Rose in quite a few episodes the last while so maybe they're not done with 'life' yet!

You right about Rose and Bernard. Maybe they wind up being the next Adam and Eve. Sorry I had To throw that in, it's from very very old theories. But I do like Rose and Bernard. They seem to love each other so much.

Yeah, they're either showing them the last few episodes because they have more stories planned for them, particularly with Rose being a bit more clued up about Jack being sick, OR they're showing them the last few episodes to remind us of who they were before they kill them off!

Yeah i agree,i hated the Nikki/Paulo backstory/episode....but then there could be a few more survivors, who could have been introduced briefly before being killed off. (like Libby)
Remember the movie "ALIVE"...similar situation,in some ways...they introduced most of the charactors, even the "bit" players..so at least you knew something about them.
Heres another thing, when the plane crashed on the Island, how many of the original survivors had serious/life threatening injuries ?..not that many that i can recall.

yeah it could go pretty much either way but i doubt they are the next adam and eve they would have had to be in the show way more for that to happen. i think they are goin to be killed off.:(
