Maybe the button pushing thing kept the island moving? Maybe the moving is temporal not physical.

oh good idea....but i think it has been said that we would not get answers of the numbers-just they are bad luck-so im not sure if the hitting the button would play a role into this

But maybe the machine kept the island moving, and now they are stopped so Ben has to get out an alternate way to move the island in time?
The numbers may not mean anything at all, maybe they were just a way to get someone to push the button.

Someone posted this theory on another website as well. It seems to make sense. Punching in the numbers every 108 minutes kept the island moving ahead of time. Since Desmond blew the hatch up, it is now slowing down, catching up with real time.

I don't know if ya'll have run across this yet, but check out this site www.timelooptheory.com. it is very interesting reading and discusses some of the topics you are thinking about. time warping, the need for the buttons and so on. It's a great theory.
