Why a fake plane?

I have read a lot of people saying that Oceanic put the fake plane at the bottom of the ocean, but why? Unfortunately, planes crash.

Is it to give the families a sense of closer? To assure future passengers that they have the capability to find their own planes if they go missing?

It seems like a lot of work for an airline to do.

If it was Dharma or the others, wouldn't it have been easier to just get the survivors off the island? It takes a lot more time and effort to get another plane, fill it with bodies, and drop it off in a ravine. Just pack up all the people and ship them off. Then, dump the pieces of the plane that are on the island in the ocean. Who cares how the survivors explain their return to the public. They wouldn't be able to find the island anyway.

Maybe dharma doesnt want anyone to know about the island and thats why they didnt get them off and they put the fake plane there so people would stop searching for the survivers.

As of right now I believe they planted it there so they can call it "case closed" and re-open for business...remember that after the crash, they closed their doors. They wanted all the searching to stop also, maybe because they were afraid that people were getting too close to finding out some valuable info......

I fully agree with that, they put bodies there so they could state them as dead bc otherwise they would still be missing and people who STILL be out there looking. This way people stop looking and can put it to rest. Someone is def trying to hide this island somehow.

That is what they are doing. They are involved in a high-level conspiracy. The money to take a plane and put it in the ocean somewhere. To put a body there. If the body is real, then someone would have to give up their life, or be forcibly killed. All for a cover-up. Cover-up what? The truth about the original plane. People stop looking for it, wondering what happened to it. Now with that lie up for the masses, Oceanic and or its parent company like Dharma or someone else can go on with there mission without having watchful eyes on them inquiring a to what they are doing. I don't know why they want Ben. Maybe to get the knowledge he has gathered from Jacob/island throughout his lifetime?

I find it too much of a coincidence that Dharma owns Oceanic and their plane just happened to crash on the same island where Dharma was doing its experiments. I mean, it is a small world, but not that small.
