Dharma needed polar bears.

Dharma could have been studying the magnetism of the island and polar bears belonging to the poles. Substituting that magnetism on the bears would indicate several biological or hormonal changes in the bears. They also live about 25 years.

I don't really believe this but I keep thinking of some kind of polar shift, like the earth used to be tilted another way or something

If there was a polar shift don't you think the climate in that region would be slightly different and if it happened a long time ago the bears might have adapted to look much different.

The magnet part would sort of make sense, but ya i am not touting that theory, it just stuck in my head.

Yeah I doubt it too, I really just started thinking about it after reading a lot about cancer studies done in the North Pole.
